NPNG 4ch Preamp, anyone have one yet?

Hey Slutz,

Just some questions about the preamp-
What kind of design is the preamp (Class A? A/B?, Transfromer balanced?)
What is the difference between the 'Clean' and 'Warm' channels?
Any update on it's availability, shipping date, street price?

Cheers

They're shipping. Class A, Discrete, transformerless input, transformer output, hilarious amount of "technical bliss". Despite all that, the pre was not designed for "best specs"...but for the sheer sonics. With that, it's arguably the single coolest mic pre currently available. VERY fast, clear, detailed sound you'd expect from a Martech or GML pre, but with this underlying "woah, rock" character that an API can impart. Impossible to describe, really, though one client said that he's been using it on vocals and it "Sounds like you're inside the singer's mouth". That'll give you an idea.

It's also got this incredibly neat variable pad, from 4dB to 40dB or something like that.

The 4 channel box is $4500, and the 2 channel version is coming around mid-November and will be...well, less than the 4 channel version.

The NPNG QMP4-NW has become a staple for drum overheads, piano, and vocals at the Meth Lab, and we're finding new uses for it every day.

I haven't heard the 'warm' channel yet but I did a record with the original NPNG several years back and loved the detail of that preamp. Carl is a great guy as well.

External PSU? If so, rackmountable?
