What’s going on here ?
Is this still GS ?
It used to be THE place where professionals are discussing professional issues with each other in an open, respectful manner.
I don’t see him “whining” or “frustrated”
His point is very common and legit:
If one is doing analog modeling his product will be evaluated by how close he got to the analog unit.
Slate is imo good at it
Well, I initially wrote an encouraging message to the developers. I think we are lucky to be able to pick and chose. And that they do a good job. And respect for that. But someone found a way to add something negative to my positive message with its own sarcasism.
Sarcassim is simply a form of frustration, hence my reply.
Anyway, back on topic, does someone compared the FG-2a against the LA2a from UAD?
Didn't like the 3rd one on drums, it has less low end and high mids are pushed forward a bit. Also sounds like the 1st one compresses the loop more than the other two. Didn't like the 1st one on vocals. Pumps a bit too much and vocal moves forwards-backwards on certain syllables.
Chuckled at the bear pic.
Too late to change the video, but I would have found it really heloful to have the uncompressed tracks in there as well, the better to hear what the compressors were doing. I realise experienced ears could hear that anyway, but my ears were like "yep, it sounds like the same take each time, but not sure which bit of that sound is the compressor"...
FG-2A vs Two LA-2A Hardware Pieces. Enjoy! [/CENTER]

😂😂😂There is only one thing in this world even more vibish, more authentic and more in your face than all vintage gear together: Steven Slate himself. Thanks Steven!
I will definitely try the FG-2A.
I truly wish the best for Slate, and that they continue to make excellent tools. I use Trigger on a near constant basis. With that said, I so look forward to the day when I no longer see ads saying "Analog vs Digital." Does anyone really care about this anymore? Do we really need to have one more conversation about how this doesn't matter.
If someone want's an La-2a, they're made out of metal, they have tubes in them, a large opto cell, and knobs that you turn, and switches that go clunk when you move them. They sound like an La-2a because they are exactly that. I highly recommend the AudioScape one if you can't afford the genuine article. They're eerily close in vibe and tone at all settings. This is an exceptional tool for tracking vocals and bass.
If you're looking for total recall and want one across many sources, I'm sure the Slate plugin is excellent and will give you the la-2a flavor over all your tracks, and you never have to worry about changing tubes. Other than that, can we please end the debate between analog and digital. They're not the same...
Ok, guys, I tried with FG-2A. Gain reduction(~-12dB) and level matched.
And here are the files along with the real hardware one, shared by dear @
Mercado_Negro
Also as an experiment, normalized both FG-2A and Real hardware files individually while exporting to amplify and let all listen to the subtle details...
To get a slight more low-end saturation, there is also the 3rd file with a little touch of FG-73.
epic vid, man i dig the humor
the one before was also memorable wiht the frame-skips at the start (reminiscence of ppl calling steve a GTA character in the past i guess ^^ )
comparison was spot on too. really great setup. yes its a great comp. any of the 3.
