THAT gets me all kinds of excited!

Also, are you familiar with the old Steven Massey “TalkBack” plug-in? I believe it was based on this compressor for its talkback feature that loud sounds would be compressed quickly. But it also had a mute feature when in playback or record mode. Would this plug-in at least handle the fast compression/cut off function as the Massey plug-in did?

I’ve been waiting for someone to recreate the LMC-1 for like a decade. This was part of a signal chain I used all the time on my vocals for a certain signature sound, then 64 bit processors came out and the LMC was squashed and never updated.

I have literally been searching for this every few months for 10 years.

Words cannot express how happy I am to have found it. Hopefully it will be compatible with the new M1 chips so I don’t immediately run into the same issue

Hey there,

Did you get the TBL working on your rig? Any trouble with the M1 chip?

Sorry for the stupid question, but is Talkback Limiter a "VCA" or "FET" compressor?

It is a FET compressor isn't it? The 2N5486 controls the gain reduction?

Hey there,

Yes, it is a FET circuit simulation, based on the 2N5486. We closely modeled our TBL on a specific hardware unit that was used on a lot of records.

You can download a 7 day fully functional demo from our website at https://korneffaudio.com/product/talkback-limiter/.

Let me know if you have any questions; we’ll get you answers.

The 2N5486 is a JFET. That is what is in the hardware unit, and that is what we emulated for our Talkback Limiter. Punchy and full of character!

Is the 'Pad' switch still going to be implemented at some point?

Cheers.

SSL LMC time constants

Really digging this compressor. Out of curiosity, anyone know the fixed attack and release times on this thing?

Any way you could add a slow attack option while under the hood? That could be a great alternate sound on drums or bass.

We keep a list of requests, and this one will definitely go onto the list for consideration. Thanks for posting it up.

Thanks Luke, same to you and Dan!

Still using Talkback Limiter on every mix since I picked it up. It can really do a lot besides the classic room mic crushing.

The Ridge Farm Boilers have a rocking atitude. As far as I know they're based on a modified LMC circuit and their slow attack toggle brings a super energetic punch that's killer in parallel - hence the request.

Maybe I am going crazy, but this plugin gives me the best in the box transients for drum sounds. I overloud it with a -hot- signal and dial in 2-3% mix. The transient seems very organic, not clicky like your usual digital fanfare, and is glued immensely with the source signal.

I think the 15k LPF may have something to do with the organic sound of this plugin. Less ultra-highs seems to bring more depth, especially when smashing drums. I'm definitely into it.

Hey there,

We are doing an update to the TBL, hopefully out in a few weeks, and we love the idea of a slower attack, so hopefully we get that in.

Glad you’re using it everywhere. It is a very handy plugin!

There is definitely a sort of “click” that FET compressors seem to add to anything you run through them. It’s not necessarily a click, but perhaps a snap. It is very hard to describe, but I’ve only heard it on FET units (and plugins based on FETs). It’s probably some artifact caused by the way the FET works, but it does the job when you need that punch and snap. And the TBL is the snappiest out of the bunch, I think. I do the same thing you do - put it on a channel and then back it way down to just give the transient a little more “pluck.”

It is indeed. My AIP has become an indispensable companion too. What else is coming with the update besides maintenance stuff and the new Korneff plugin toolbar?

We are doing a bunch of bug fixes first, and then hoping to add things like an input pad and an attack time control, but we are a little off schedule - we have a new plugin we want to get out, but first bug fixes, so as of right now it is unclear what exactly will be in the upgrade.

What sort of features would you like to see? For any of our plugins?

Luke
