Great price. But i think I will invest more in UAD for now.

I tried the Apogee EQ and comp (modern ones) and quite liked them. Probably would have grabbed them as mixing tools, but i am currently using the combo of SSL X-EQ and track comp... Also holding out the the TC electronic EQ and Comp with controllers (can't wait to try them out)

Will check out the opto. Like the 3a on keys and guitar.

Has anyone tried the opto by auditory? Thats another one that doesn't get talked about. You can switch out the opto element and get very different results. I was highly impressed by it.

I'm trying to authorize my trackcomp 2 license on macOS 10.15.6 by double clicking on the downloaded license file. I'm getting an error message

“DMGAudio_TrackComp_license.command” cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware.

Anyone have any advice?

Go to Mac prefs > security and privacy and then allow.

Ah, thanks! Wow. Catalina is super locked down. This is my first experience with this OS. All of these security restrictions and notifications is very "Windows".

huh... I have the whole UAD lineup, yet no longer use them since TrackComp came along.

Is oversampling worth the CPU hit?

I did a couple of tests and I could barely hear a difference. Nothing that could make me want to use it while mixing. Maybe if I drive them more I could need OS.

If you can hear a positive difference than yes. I can when I’m pushing the more colorful models, not so much when doing a couple dB’s on one of the more utility ones.

I've never owned or used UAD plugins, but whenever I watch a plugin shootout on YouTube they always sound the best of the bunch.

Does the TrackComp 2 LA2A have a similar box tone to the UAD versions?

I only recently have been made aware of DMG Audio as a company with very clean signal processing. Strangely no colleague knows about it.
Because my aliasing measurements showed unbelievably good noisefloor results for "Equality" I searched for a saturation capable plugin and I am giving TrackComp 2 a try.

I already find the 76 model unbelievable.
4x OS @ 48k , all buttons mode, long attack, short release, threshold down until drumbus+bass distorts (beautifully btw), threshold back until distortion becomes subtle. Done. Even an already great sounding track gets that typical hw icing on the cake of even more power which I have not been able to achieve with any other 76-plugin model so far. This plugin achieves that.

Love this! This has been my experience with DMG. Their design philosophy speaks to me, and the sound makes me feel the love.

I do not search for new gear regularly and I am also not visiting GS regularly. And if I do, I do not go into "old product alerts" subforum.

I think for ppl like me it would be much better, if the discussion about this amazing compressor would not be hidden in the last dark corner, but take place, where the discussions about plugins from other companies also take place: in the DAW/plugin subforum.

A Trackpreamp would just about send me over the edge

I have most UAD comps and most others, but I keep getting tempted to try this one.

These really have a different presentation than any other comp plugins. Very much worth a try even if you have a bunch of those models already covered. I use it all the time personally.

For me the OS setting on 4 (44.1) is more open and 3d than no OS.
First in the mix I use OS = 1 ... working fast ....and then when I'm closer to render I change the OS setting

I'm starting to convince myself you can't have too many comps.

I have all the best UAD comps, but I skipped the LA3A. For about the same price, I could grab this and have variety instead.

If an LA-3A emulation comes to TrackComp I'll be a very happy guy.

Here a setting I dialed in with TrackComp while trying to match it up with the UAD Gray Face plugin (peak reduction around 40). This is a little slower than my Stam clone, but a very good all-round LA-2A starting point IMO.



This will boost the gain a few db's which you can back off by either cutting the make-up gain or just trimming the clean output.
