Resonant mind, the difference is the criticism of the unit itself vs you criticizing the criticism. There is a difference. I wont respond to the rest of your comments as it is not related to the gear itself and we both already have said our points which are getting off topic.

That faceplate has to be an April Fools joke?

It wouldn’t work in a professional environment but I think most high end gear gets bought by weekend warriors these days so- maybe it’s all good

Dude, you don't have to police this thread. Terry doesn't need protecting, the design doesn't need defending and you don't have to counter comments against the face plate with comments of praise.

We're all adults sharing different opinions and having a bit of harmless banter. You're the person turning this thread into the typical "I'm right, you're wrong" variety.

Relax

Lol I'm getting a bit of a kick watching resonantmind run himself ragged trying to white knight Terry audio.

He said further back that he's a hobbyist so it's not like he has work to do. At this point I just comment because it's clear we're all laser pointers and he's a cat.

Laughed out loud at that analogy! Submitting that one to the memory banks for use in casual conversation :¬)

Damn Tim...

Something about you makes me want to ask myself if I feel lucky. Knowing full well I'm a punk, I'm applying several filters to keep the resonance in my head in check.

Really don't think I've seen such a performance from someone that has been here for 10+ years. Very committed.

One other thing about a white faceplate is they tend to smudge up quickly from fingers repeatedly going over the same spots. Perhaps the operator should wear gloves. Something we used to do with new interns was have them clean up accumulated finger grime on the knobs on the 6kE SSL to keep it appearing tidy and those were light grey.

I’m putting it together now- Marshall I’ve experienced to be a super legit dude- so I still don’t like the faceplate but I bet it sounds great

God forbid we should learn to use a tool that skips a step between the haptic and aural experiences!

Back to sanity - just got my stepped version. I haven't put it in the rack yet, but it looks lovely. The filters are (indented) paint strokes, and are well done. The white faceplate is definitely not going to collect smudges.

Nothing that a sharpie couldn't fix.

I wanna hear this thing.

Perhaps it could replace a few boxes if 'Terry' has good ear.

I actually like the 80s Swatch watch-looking panel, except for the ugly ‘Terry’ logo. That has to improve.

Laser pointers on stun....

Post

Hey everyone -

Wow, finding this a little late here...

Anyways.

You all are not the only ones who -
-don't like white
and
-don't like the logo

I've had a few people want a black faceplate and a chill logo. So, that'll happen.

I have people who love the white aesthetic, as it's one of the first things that artists look at and ask about through the door. It's 'anti-military' looking for that reason.

The things I can't or won't do are -
- number the steps
and
-put ALL the frequencies everywhere

...mainly because I've seen it and it's a complete cluttered mess.

Furthermore -

Since everything that is silkscreened rubs off with time, the faceplate is engraved (recessed) and paint filled. This is much more costly than silkscreening but when you get one, it's sleek, deep, and shows a lot more pride then anyone's 'express clone' hardware, since, yeah, it's a great world that we can get stuff printed onto metal easily - but it just looks... cheap. Like knobs. No plastic knobs. Bake-lite. No silkscreen. Engraved and filled.

For folks who are turned off that frequencies aren't there -

Honestly...

You know -

- just sweep the thing and find what you like
- use the 'o-clock' system
- use my recall sheets (which have the frequencies on them)
- this gives you a blind test so you choose things by ear and not by brain
- you use your gear day in and day out so after a week you'll know it already

I find the 'blind test' selection while using it is the biggest thing. Almost everyone at AES and NAMM were surprised when I told them what frequency they stopped at and thought they were on. Many people want to work on 2k but they are actually up at 4.7k

... that's what I call progress...

If this was a live sound notch equalizer suppressing feedback, then you gotta know it and fast. Mastering? Not too bad.

If anyone who has previously posted on this thread, love or hate posts, is interested in an EQ, email me and prove it's you and I'll give you a 15% off discount.

Thanks for joining the discussion.

I've spend YEARS listening to every part, inductor, CAP (oh my what a huge difference the caps make in every filter position), relay, resistor, pot, transistor - this is far from a clone but rather a culmination of hundreds of Mouser / Digikey / eBay / etc orders tuning in a heritage EQ design that still adds huge mojo but keeps all the magic spook and hologram in every recording it masters (or especially tracks and hits the mix buss on too).

Be well, make it happen,

(and hey, Doug!)
