CRANE SONG - Interstellar 2ch A/D & Tesseract Master Clock

Crane Song have unveiled two new digital products based on Dave Hill’s class-leading Quantum clock.

Following on from last year’s Solaris 2ch D/A converter, INTERSTELLAR is a 2ch A/D input converter. We don't have much more information at the moment, but as the front panel offers analogue processing - including Triode and Pentode valve emulations and Tape processing - we’re assuming the SOLARIS and INTERSTELLAR are essentially the input and output converter stages from the popular HEDD Quantum processor. Watch this space for more details…

Incorrect, if it's the same as the HEDD it's 24bit fixed point digital signal processing. I'm sure the A-D stage is great. I'd've saved the panel space instead for higher res PPM's (the HEDD's are higher resolution than the Avocet).

Hi Adam, what do you mean about higher res PPM's?

I'm not Adam, but I guess he refers to the metering.

I think Adam is refering to the clock.
Crystal accuracy is speced in PPM (parts per million)

If that was the case what have panel space to do with that?

Anyway.. let's see if Adam comes back to clarify..

Now that's a very interesting looking AD! Always loved the rich sound of the HEDD's, so this might end up on my studio upgrade list!

Looking like about $2400 (for now).

I'd personally like to get the HEDD Quantum here to check out (AD wise) against the Dangerous AD+.
The wait for the HEDD is making that a logistical challenge however.
I know I want the CS DAC, just not sure about the AD side of things yet.

I gave up on the Hedd Quantum (which i asked about last year) for that reason. Ordered a Solaris Quantum which should be arriving soon. Will decide on the AD later. BTW i have a Hedd 192 for sale if anyone's interested. Very lightly used in a non-smoking private studio.

Dave has told me personally via email that it would be the end of summer. But the lack of info is making me wary also.

FWIW the Solaris Q arrived (finally). Compared the DA with HEDD 192 and Lynx Aurora (n), both clocked to a Grimm. Solaris Q was the winner, Aurora (n) came in second and Hedd 192 came in 3rd, which surprised me frankly. Three words for Solaris Q: effortless, silky and spacious (air/stereo image). Lows/mids are full bodied but not hyped, highs/transients, cristal clear but not offensive. Like something going through a Macintosh tube amp maybe? Remarkable. I sure hope Interstellar ships this century.

Still awaiting the HEDD Quantum here. Going chk the AD side against the dangerous AD+.

Going into it, it seems it could be a tough call as the clocking options of the quauntum and, input color options are a +.

Might come down to what styles one is mostly interested in, mix capture wise. And which AD color options one is more interested, or not, for tracking.

Still, I hear the punch, slight sheen &..? of the AD+ is darn nice as well.

Rooting for you, Dave. Really want to pick up a Tesseract, otherwise it's a Grimm.
