Bag End® introduces the Nebula musical instrument series

After 25 years the Deep Red series will be replaced by the Nebula series. Nebula is Bag End's newest loudspeaker series incorporating decades of experience and working with some of the best musicians and technical designers on the planet. The Nebula Musical Instrument Series are highly advanced musical instrument loudspeaker systems that will cover any gig, instrument or personal style. Bag End's Oiled Birch Musical Instrument series will remain the same. Deep Red has enjoyed the longest consistent manufacturing time of any bass instrument loudspeaker ever made. Acoustical, functional and cosmetic design from the earliest models, to the last units produced, are all high quality and compatible.

Nebula promises to offer the same quality and functional excellence as the Deep Red. Many models are directly comparable in size with upgrades in performance and features allowing multiple models to be perfectly stacked in many configurations. The Nebula finish is super durable, water tight, abrasion resistant, UV resistant, chemical resistant and extraordinarily strong. It is a beautiful deep purple, almost black under stage light. They are lighter and stronger and optionally self-powered. Every detail in the Nebula series is perfectly engineered and constructed to insure years of trouble free operation.

The Musical Instruments series incorporates modern driver technology coupled with state of the art cabinet construction and timeless design. Some innovative designs, which were first introduced in the 1970's, have become legendary vintage standards. These designs have evolved slightly over the years but fundamentally remain the same. Later models offer newer variety for different taste and for newer instrument types such as the Chapman Stick.

Cabinets come with rubber feet on two sides and matching feet pockets on the other two sides allowing cabinets to be securely interlocked in multiple directions. Bag End's machined aluminum speaker mounting clamps are strong and secure and allow for easy driver exchange. Flush mounted spring bail handles provide easy handling by keeping hands and wrists away from the cabinet. The handles are made of durable coated steel. Cabinets include a rugged 16 gauge powder coated steel grille and flush mounted input plate.

Musical instrument systems, especially loudspeakers designed for use with stringed instruments, require more than just technical expertise. Over the years Bag End has employed the highest degree of technology into these systems allowing the loudspeaker to become an extension of the instrument itself. A well designed loudspeaker will reproduce all the characteristics of the instrument, but it also adds its own frequency response, distortion and directivity characteristics. Electronic equalization in the instrument and preamp is also widely used. Nebula designs include artistic subjectivity along with technical excellence to consider and incorporate these variables. Since before Bag End was formed in 1976, the founders were both technicians and musicians and they incorporated both good taste and technology into the sound design of the early systems.

Some of Bag End's original designs proved to be exactly what many musicians wanted and therefore, have not changed for over 4 decades. In the 1970's early Bag End instrument systems were single and double 12” and 15“ models. These early models were loosely based upon and inspired by cabinets Alembic built for Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead and others. At that time Bag End designed a modular system for arraying and stacking cabinets and refined the hardware and finish. The first cabinet built by Bag End was a double 12, serial No.1. It was sold to Mike Sassetti, in 1976 and 35 years later Mike bought his second double 12 and returned cabinet No.1 for the museum. Bag End has refined manufacturing processes and now offers a variety of options. Over time our products have remained remarkably compatible, rather than changing models every year Bag End standardized basic dimensions and designs and kept the products consistent over long time periods. Some of the earliest system designs remain in production today and are virtually unchanged, for instance the single 12's and single 15's which have become industry standards. Based upon timeless designs and principles these models are hard to beat. You might say, if you get it right the first time you don't need the new improved version. Bag End systems are made to sound great, last long, and be serviceable. Used Bag End cabinets demand the highest price because most musicians keep them as an investment for a lifetime.
