Golden Age Premier GA-251 - inspired by ELA M251

I just got the brand new Golden Age Premier GA-251 delivered from Sweden for an upcoming test and was surprised not to find any news about it on gearslutz.

It's the second mic by Golden Age Premier and of course inspired by the Telefunken ELA M 251. I plan to do a comparison with an original Telefunken ELA M 251 in about ten days and I will upload some audio samples as soon as possible. Great quality of the power supply, the cable and the itself by the way.

I got serial No. 001 (!) for my test and as far as I know it starts shipping in the beginning of October!

The smaller switch is the "Ground Lift".
In the back of the unit is the Omni / Cardioid switch.

Here's a Taylor acoustic guitar recorded in cardioid mode with the GA-251.
The capsule points to the 15th fret, the distance is 25 cm.
Preamp: Sound Devices Mixpre 10M Kashmir Preamps.

I added a few dB digital gain, that's it.

I say we start a flame war about the guitar he recorded with the GA mic.

I'll start: TAYLOR? Are you kidding, can't touch a Martin!

Suggested replies: "You Martin guys are all about your logo. Taylor rules"

-or-

"Taylor? Martin? Pffffft. They suck. Gibson is the only true guitar and the shorter length proves it."

Quick question not to get too much off topic. Saw you recorded with a Mix Pre and I have a 6M. I've found recordings to be really "meaty" for lack of a better word. Very punchy and full. Not having a ton of experience, with different recorders, how do you find it? It was funny because that's what struck me about the test recordings (aside from the lovely sound). Can't wait to hear against the real thing!

Hey everyone,
I did a lot of recordings last week to compare the two beauties. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to listen to it again in detail and to do some proper audio exports. I'm in the middle of a production at the moment, but I will hopefully find the time on this weekend to upload some samples.

@ardis
I have to say that I really love the discrete preamps of the new MixPre M Series.
They are the most musical sound preamps I ever came across in an external recorder. They also have a very nice open top end.

Martin guys will put down their guitars (very very very gently), check their humidifiers, and then ask, "Yamaha... shouldn't they stick to motorcycles?"

I really like the new GAP Premier Pre-73. It works just well with any mic I tried it so far, so yes - it is a good combo in my point of view
