Won't be buying any gear until next year when I build the $10k analogue rack of doom . Right now it's looking like it will be all Stam Audio. The only thing that's missing is a Stam tube mic pre (hint hint). With DI please.
That's the most affordable hardware clone of the Fairchild that I've come across.
As an Anamod AM660 owner, I wonder how the Stam will compare. The AM660 fooled a frightening number of people in A/B tests. Though not applying to the topology of the Fairchild, instead opting for analog modeling, it is far less expensive. If the Stam gets us even close to a Fairchild I may consider selling the Anamod, though, to be honest, I don't hear much difference between it and a Fairchild either.
Truth is i don't need another compressor but this would look glorious in my rack!
I don't mind the long winded wait either as it allows me to get my pennies together!
OK tempting it is.
Reading through the announcement page I wonder about this line: "With the aid of premium transformer reproductions made by Brian Sowter in the UK and the use of four JJ 6386 and two 12AX7 tubes we have managed to make this unit virtually indistinguishable to the original. "
Was the StamChild tested against one of the handful of original units currently available to mankind, where, when, and how.
do you have any expirience with customer support in "third world countries" ?
excuse me, but that's some borderline racist sh!t.
stay away from stam if you feel like you can't trust them, but please quit that other sh!t, you have no expirience with Stam.
Actually it’s not racist it’s classist. In spite of that his concern is not unfair. From what I have seen so far it looks like people have had decent enough experiences with Stam, though it is reasonable to have a healthy dose of skepticism with products from countries where literally no other products in this space come from and a company that demand deposits of products that you may not receive for up to a year. Stam has been establishing its reputation for a few years now, and others have been the guinea pigs, and now I feel comfortable enough to get in on a preorder.
