Calling all Goliath (not HD) owners:

I'm thinking about picking up a Goliath.

A question: does the Goliath have an internal fan? If so, is it audible?

I'm super-sensitive to fan noise as my studio is (at present and by design) completely free of any computer / fan noise.

Thanks in advance! ......... I.R.

Hello I.R.Baboon,

Goliath does not have an internal fan. There is only a passive cooler.

Best regards,
Alex

Sorry, just a couple more questions for the Antelope aficionados:

My Goliath arrived.

Now i'm wondering:

Can i plug it into the same computer (via USB) as my Orion 32 plus?

If i do, will i be presented with two separate instances of the control software?

In fact, do they both use the same application for routing?

Just to explain, i won't be using the soundcard features of either device, i'm just using them for conversion & routing. Audio will be going to and from my 'puter via an RME HDSPe Madi FX soundcard.

Obviously i could just plug them in and see, but i don't want to do anything imprudent!

And just one other thing: ideally i'd like to situate the 32+ around 30 meters from my computer. Have you ever heard of anyone doing this using a USB via ethernet extender? Something like this: LogiLink® USB 2.0 Cat.5 Extender
So, again, i only need the USB connection for the routing app, not for passing any audio.

Thanks! ............. I.R.

Yes, you can have both control panels. Just make sure that you are using the latest Antelope Audio Launcher 1.9.3.

They both use the new Antelope Launcher which is now responsible to run the Antelope Audio Control Panel.Goliath Control Panel is almost identical as Orion32+

This is absolutely fine. In your case, you will be using the USB Connection only for AFX and Routing.

Unfortunately i do not have any experience with this USB Extender model. My suggestion is to check with the manufacturer.

Best regards,
Alex

I'm happy to report that as well as being able to run both interfaces (Orion 32+ and Goliath) at the same time on one PC, is was also able to control the 32+ via the USB-over-CAT5 extender (mentioned above).

This is great, i can now move the 32+ to my live room and use it as my live room A/D, while controlling it from my PeeCee in the control room.

After a long development process, we are very proud to announce that Antelope Audio's Thunderbolt Windows Driver is out of beta and available now as an officially supported release. Happy recording!

During the Beta period we fixed the outstanding bugs and tweaked the performance. You can check how the Discrete 8 compares to other devices on the Low Latency Performance Data Base Thread. I'd like to thank @ TAFKAT for his great work on the LLP Database and for measuring the Discrete 8.
Latency-wise we were able to get stable playback at 192kHz with 64 samples buffer size in Studio One on ASRock Fatal1ty Z370 Gaming-ITX/ac with Intel Core i7-8700 CPU, which on the Discrete 8 gets you sub-millisecond round-trip latency (0.995ms). The other Antelope Audio Thunderbolt interfaces will show slightly different, but similar and still very low RTL latency numbers (withing ~20 samples), because of the different AD/DA chips used.

The driver is still in active development and a new Beta version will be released later this quarter to support multiple ASIO clients working simultaneously and AFX2DAW. Further release will add native Windows Audio support. Stay tuned!

We've updated the Thunderbolt driver page to include more answers to FAQs, recommended cables and adapters, and a list of known good configuration.

Antelope Audio Windows Thunderbolt™ Driver | Antelope Audio

Special thanks to our Beta users who helped us develop and deliver the driver!

Best regards,
Svetoslav Enchev
Cheers!

Hi guys at Antelope,

Could you give me a timescale on when the Tape Machine FX will be made available for the Orion 32+?

(on your website it's saying "coming soon" for the last few months)

Thanks!

I think it's available, at least on Goliath HD? I haven't used it as I'm not using Thunderbolt (so it won't work for me), but I have it installed from the Launcher. Maybe it's not enabled yet though...

"AFX2DAW is currently available only through Thunderbolt for Apple OS X"

Here's what mine looks like...
GHD and NO afx2daw available.
Connected via USB

Check out the last updates to the drivers:
Drivers:
Windows 10 USB Driver
Goliath USB Audio Driver Windows 10 Setup (v.3.40, Mar 22,2017)

Windows 7/8.1
Goliath USB Audio Driver Windows 7/8.1 Setup (v.3.40, Nov 15, 2016)

Pretty embarrassing for a $7k unit.

Ah, sorry, I didn’t catch that. I’m on OSX. I also don’t have TB on my system, so I can’t use AFX2DAW either.

Anybody have experience with the goliath under osX 10.14.4 (mojave) on a mac mini 2018 over thunderbolt?

Im on the road away from my daw at the moment, but was seeing some dropouts when i installed. Hoping someone here knows the right versions/settings. Came from high sierra/macbook pro which was solid.

Sam-

Yes your colleague Monika helped me. I am ok for now...will be watching it closely but its working.

On another topic, though, Sam...Im not thrilled that AFX2DAW is not available for the Goliath. I'd like the option.

Its certainly resizable on windows with the original silver face Goliath, Im just waiting for the window size to save within the presets which it doesn't at the moment... no big deal however, love it.
