Hardware Appsys multiverter MVR-64 - The ultimate Digital Format Converter

Swiss company Appsys ProAudio is proud to announce the availability of the multiverter.

The world's first multi-format digital audio converter allows to convert digital audio data between the most popular formats ADAT, MADI optical, MADI coaxial, MADI-TP, AES50, and Dante plus other formats via break-out boxes.

All inputs can freely be routed to all of the outputs in a “matrix” fashion. Diagnostics are made simple by an integrated headphones amplifier and a test tone generator, while three power inlets allow operation from either AC or DC (battery pack) with full redundancy. The multiverter is even prepared for headamp remote control (Yamaha, Behringer, MIDAS) and can convert between the different vendor-specific control formats to allow true system interoperability.

The product is available from now at MSRP $2798.-
Check for more info at the Appsys ProAudio product page.

Would definitively make sense. A breakout box for this would be no problem, but I don't know if AVID discloses the specs for it. On the other hand there must be a way because there are a few non-AVID products around which claim to be compatible to digilink.

That's on the schedule, I'm currently investigating how to do that with full 64x64 channel support.

Very interesting ! Great product !

Only letdown for me is the MADI-over-TP dilemma. The manual says
Quote:
Several proprietary implementations of “MADI over Twisted Pair” exist prior to standardization. Most of them are incompatible to the method specified in AES-X-213.
and I fear that Soundcraft VI's MADI-over-TP RJ45 standard counts as proprietary (as opposed to RME MADI-over-TP which is the official AES X 213 standard and pinout I think). Is that something which could be fixed with a simple pinout converter as suggested for the AES50/DANTE ports ?

Soundcraft MADI RJ45 pinout is
1 MADI TxD +
2 MADI TxD –
3 MADI RxD +
4 WCLK TXD/RXD +
5 WCLK TXD/RXD –
6 MADI RxD –
7 reserved
8 reserved

Some people say it's possible to adapt from Soundcraft TP to BNC Coax MADI since it's electrically identical (though you lose the stagebox control data). That would be another way to get into the MVR64.

Hardware New firmware 1.4 available

The multiverter's feature set continues to grow... we have just released a new small update (download here)

V1.4 (2017-04-13)
=================

- UI: New panel lock function: To lock/unlock the panel, press and hold the "Back"
button (small round button left-top to the encoder) while pushing the encoder.
If the panel is locked and a button is pressed, the seven-segment display will
flash three times to indicate the lock.

- ADAT: Fixed ADAT input channel assigment (ch1/2 were missing, data from 7/8
appeared instead on ch1/2 as well as on 7/8)

- Dante: Fixed occasional corrupted transmit data when clock source is "DA"
(supposedly due to a bug in the Brooklyn module)

- MADI: Fixed very rare init problems after powerup

- Testtone: Fixed ch1 samples doubled in samplerates >= 88.2kHz

Next on the schedule are:
- ASRC module (hardware plug-in) which allows you run one interface on its own clock (64x64 bi-dir ASRC, 1:8 to 8:1) (will ship end of may)
- Waves Soundgrid breakout box
- Breakout box for Soundcraft/Studer/Digico MADI-TP
- Remote control software for PC/Mac
- Headamp remote control
