"Waves is pleased to present the newest member of Waves acclaimed L-Series, the L316 Multimaximizer, a 16 band peak limiter that delivers unparalleled loudness with unprecedented control."

Now our mixes can be even louder.

I'm not that excited. I thought L3 was only good for taking all the punch and coolness out of my mixes. I'm gonna assume that this 16x as bad. Take a look at that screenshot...they should call it the Mix Destroyer!!!

Well, I won't be buying this plug. The whole Mercury exclusive thing makes very little sense to me... but that is really another topic altogether. I must admit though, the GUI does look pretty cool.

If waves was smart, they'd make a new transparent clipper with a no overs ceiling built in.

What do you mean?
You just said that it was impossible to listen to it because of all the noise;
well, there you have it.

Well, to be fair, you should only assume that this will be 3.2 times as bad since L3 is a five-band limiter...

If your mix has punches and coolness in their own right, a judiciously used L3 won't kill it at the mastering stage. If you used it prior to mastering, well, what were you thinking?

Technically, an Alesis 3630 used judiciously won't kill a great mix, but if you do A/B test I'm sure it would lose out to almost anything else you put against it. Same goes for the L3. I can think of at least 8 other mastering stage limiters that I'd prefer to use than L3.

GClip is quite good, but its not as good as a good A/D clipping. I can push a Lavry or even the Aurora harder then I could with the GClip. For some reason chaining two Gclips doing a bit of the work sounds better.

I won't argue with that. I think it's a fine tool but it's not my favorite either.

With every product that Waves is adding exclusively to the Mercury bundle, I'm becoming more and more upset. I own the Platinum bundle which I thought was a sizeable and respectable investment. Now I feel like an abandoned stepchild. For Waves to create yet a newer more expansive bundle would have been fine. But for them to make all their latest products unattainable except through Mercury is like a slap in the face to Platinum and Diamond bundle owners. We were their best customers (or so we thought). Now I'm nothing unless I upgrade.

Thanks Waves... I almost bought Diamond... I'm glad I didn't.

i may get flamed for suggesting this, but i have been using the demo and i think (IMHO) the L316 sounds quite decent; better than the L3 at least.....

Waves has the capability to make great stuff, and they occasionally do just that.

the jury is still out for me on this one for now.

cheers.
