So if I import a (non impulse) snare hit from a sample pack it's still going to convolve with whatever comes through the input?
Yes, exactly. If you use it with wet only, you'll hear your input signal "muffled" by the snare sample. Kinda like if you hear your signal coming from a snare. You can also think it like the snare sample acts as a resonator for the input signal.
The best thing to do is just try and hear for yourself. Don't forget to hear just the wet signal.

Ok thanks :D Im trying to forge an understanding between convolution and spectral morphing from a sound design perspective. Given that convolution is zero latency it could be what I need to focus on.
Does the import wav folder always default to the same location? Can it be changed?
No, the path will be exactly where your folder is. Fog creates a new folder inside your imported folder with all the auto-generated presets file. If you organize your IRs in sub-folders, each one will be imported as a Category..

I'll try for the next major update. It's not easy as I'll have to completely rewrite the browser.
