TK Audio Releases BC501 - Powerful New 500 Series Compressor (Available Now)

TK Audio is announcing the release of their newest 500 series module, BC501 stereo bus compressor. Featuring all the power of TK’s flagship BC1-S, the new BC-501 adds even more functions taken from the BC2ME mastering compressor, such as additional ratio settings (1.25:1, 6:1), a THD switch that adds more even harmonics to the signal, and three HPF setting from which to choose (80Hz, 150Hz, 220Hz).

All controls are detented for easy, precise recall. A dedicated Wet/Dry knob allows blending between the original and compressed signals, and an external sidechain input (accessible via stereo 1/8” mini TRS jack) is also provided.
“I’ve worked overtime preserving all the ‘magic glue’ of the BC1-S in a 500 series module while giving it even more fine control”, states TK Audio president Thomas Kristiansson. “I hope everyone will be as pleased as I am with our new baby.”
BC501 will sell for $1059 MSRP/$995 MAP, and will ship in April.

TK Audio was created seven years ago with the idea of bringing modern sensibilities to classic designs. All products are individually hand built and tested in Sweden.

So, is this a mono unit?

I'm also curious - is it mono? 2 channel?

and... please consider changing (at some point) the left knobs to be easier to recall....

the best hash marks, in my opinion, are basically like the hours in a 12 hour clock, with smaller marks inbetween

so to notate a knob that is pointing straight up, I'd notate 12:00 (or noon)

and a knob pointing to the left as 3:00 (or 3 pm)

etc.

with your design, I'm left counting dots, and then notating "12 noon + 6 dots)
not as quick. Sometimes not as accurate.

just my 2c.

Why would they say "single channel" if it was stereo?
Fear its mono.. Damn.. Looked like something that would be right up my strasse.

Actually, that's incorrect. It's a stereo bus compressor - two channels.

It's based on the TK Audio BC1-S stereo buss compressor, you will find lots of love for the BC1 around these parts for a reason...!

Nice to see it make it into the 500 form.

Okay, weird description if that's in the press release. But if it's in fact a bus compressor, okay! Slightly over $1000 is a good deal and would fit my needs and save me spending an extra $700 on a C1LA that wouldn't provide much of anything more.

Always hated the C1 not having a back light on the GR too. TK, may I have a backlight, please?

Honestly, it just got missed. Things can get a bit hectic before Messe.

The OP should be changed shortly.

Missed it had that 1/8th inch ext sidechain.

Okay, I'm in in. That feature, wet/dry and HPF is a no brainer.

Can someone fix the press release NOT to say single channel? That could literally be costing TK lots of business, as people may immediately dismiss a 2 space, $1000 mono compressor.

Does not look so! Would prefer one myself!
If theres a light in the in switch i doubt it would compliment a light being in the vu!

Looks like exact same meter as the BC1, which has a light in it.

Looking forward to this. I noticed no L/R switch from the BC1. I wonder if the internal sidechain is linked or unlinked.

BC501 uses the same backlighted meter as the BC1-S, three LED's lights through the scale and not "at" the scale.
BC501 has separate detectors for L&R, the control voltages are then summed before the timing circuits.

Good to know! People like lights.

So first batch should be available at the usual retailers within a couple weeks?

yeah. and I haven't drunk beer with TK this year which is a bummer.

TK showed me the BC501 and I was impressed the THD button should allow totally new sound design possibilities. maybe not but it has one button more.
