IGS Audio Labs One LA vs LA-2A
It seems everyone is raving about these IGS Audio pieces. I have a newer model Universal Audio LA-2A that I've got on borrow from a gear place here in town. I'm looking to get a good Optical Compressor by the way and it's in all the major studio racks, right? Well, here's the deal, I keep hearing so much about the IGS Audio Labs One LA (the 19" rack version) that i'm quite intriqued. I can literally get two channels of Opto for the price of one channel of Universal Audio LA-2A.

Now, I know the best bang for the buck would obviously be the IGS Audio Labs One LA as I'd get two channels. But, I'm not concerned with bang for the buck. I want the unit to have it where it counts, THE SOUND! Any users test the One LA to the LA-2A and what had more mojo to your ears? Mainly want it for vocals, and normal LA-2A vocal purposes!

Hi, you can call Warren at Zen Pro Audio, or go there and listen to the Clips that he posted on his web site.
Warren knows a lot of gears, and he will tell you the truth, that's how he is.
You can also get 2 500 series modules of the same thing and save even more.

They are approximately as colored as the newer repros. They are cleaner than the vintage units I've heard, but also have less noise and more headroom so it's a bit of a tradeoff. Overall they do have a nice rounding and softening coloration, as you mentioned people are speaking highly of them and it's justified. Also, not sure if this is what you are referring to, but in the rack version only the mono single channel version is available. The two channel version is still TBA.

Can anyone comment on sonic differences between the 19" and 500 series versions?

I have used both. The igs unit is great, compresses well and rolls off the tops a teeny bit.

An LA2A has a ‘bigger’ sound. More 3D ....
I guess more tubes and things making more harmonics

But both are good tools
