Hi slutz..this should be easy...what amp is this? It was very used in the 70's by Black Sabbath amongst others...my guess would be Orange Overdrive...but I don't know...who can spot it from the attached mp3?

This particular sound is often heard with a very distinct slap back delay...wonder if that's part of the amp itself or just a tapeslap?

Sorry... can't hear at the moment, but I know Iommi used to use Laney stuff back in the distant past... they were based in the Midlands where he comes from.

Those look like laney heads to me...along side the vox. I'm sure it's tape echo....watkins or other box on record.

Could they be "Sound City" heads?

Blast9 26th November 2006 01:18 PM

No --- AFAIK, Sound City always had that big block logo a bit like Hiwatt, but silver --- Made in the same factory as Hiwatt in the early 70s.

White face plate too, mind you.

Here's an interesting Sound City link http://mhuss.com/Hiwatt/ipage.php?n=9

The Arbiter DOES look very similar, but I think the face plate is a different size

The ones in the picture are Park amps, I think.

The guys in Fugazi had a bunch of 'em.

Park amps were built by Marshall, I believe.

I think it was a "private label" deal that some guy in London had Marshall do, maybe a music store.

Here's a later Park from when the logo was in the center. Earlier ones had it on the top left.

Fugazi

I think they used 'em because Marshall's were too "rock and roll".

Whatever.

That isnt true, Sound City was the company, I think Dave Reeves left Sound City to start Hiwatt because the quality was suffering. I remember when Sound City amps came out they were not as cool as Marshalls and later the Hiwatts which were the cream of the crop.

I'm certain I read somewhere that Sound City amps were manufactured by Hylight Electronics... Same company as my 72-73 Hiwatt, and an old Hiwatt cab which looked almost identical to the Sound City ones

Anyway Mark Huss details the history here:
