Bruce: your Hi-Hat / Snare Separator

Hi Bruce,

I know that while recording Thriller, you built a 12" square baffle made of plywood and mumetal to separate the HH from the snare.

Do you have any pictures of that device to share with us?

I also wanted to know if it added any undesirable reflections or colour to the sound.

Thanks a lot. howdy

Check out this thread, it includes a photo of the device you are talking about:

Thanks a lot Bruce!

Thank you very much for that pic!

It answered all my questions! I see the capsule is not covered by the separator, so it would keep the cardioid pattern of the SM57 almost entirely. The way it's positioned doesn't affect the drummers playing, and I also got to see the position of the Royer in the Hi-Hat!

Would it be too much if I also ask a pic of the plywood platform you built for drums and that Michael used for recording vocals on "Rock With You"?

Thanks a lot!!! kfhkh kfhkh kfhkh
