Le lupanar studio

this is my first post on GS. So it's about my studio construction.

I will let you see some pics here, but you can already have a look at:

Hope we can talk a lot, cheers to Belgium!

first pic
here is the building before everything start.

lupanar 14th December 2011 09:53 PM

more pics
this was inside

lupanar 14th December 2011 10:05 PM

sorry still fighting with imgur and image size

lupanar 14th December 2011 10:45 PM

next try with posting image
then we empty all the building inside, just keeping external walls and roof

lupanar 14th December 2011 10:49 PM

new fondation
as the studio is a first floor, I need new walls that would be able to catch the load. this is one of the four.

lupanar 14th December 2011 10:53 PM

here you can see that only the roof's structure is left. I'm on one of the four wall that stand the studio. You can see the three other.

lupanar 14th December 2011 10:56 PM

same view roof out. Merfomer on the wall. Note the 50cm of concrete top of the wall to get the load. The studio will be around 35tons. It's 130m2 (CR+LR). they will also be a lounge, technical room and storage. the all think will be little bit more than 200m2

JoshuaE 14th December 2011 11:52 PM

I'm looking forward to this! Looks like a winner.

lupanar 15th December 2011 05:55 PM

more pics
here are more pics from the building. This is when we lay down the concrete floor. It's a 40cm high, and around 19m long an7,5m large.
And it's floating.

great looking place, i'm looking forward to this one!

alexvdbroek 17th December 2011 05:52 PM

super cool space.

lupanar 17th December 2011 08:16 PM

beam and périphéral
Thanks. The peripherals were made stronger with vertical injection with metal (1m deep), and a the top had a metal trellis and concrete. The beam is 19m long, nearly 1m high and weight more than 1,6tons. But this made the build wood structure less and open.

lupanar 17th December 2011 08:21 PM

roof structure
Here are views of wood structure. In and out. An then the new tile. Same shape as the old one (wave) but new.

lupanar 17th December 2011 08:26 PM

insulation from behind
Last work I've done is the insulation behind the concrete floating floor. So the lathing doesn't hang on the studio floor but on the walls. 20cm Knauf and a plasterboard.

lupanar 17th December 2011 08:30 PM

here we are
that's pretty much all for now. Plan for the inside are on finishing details.
Second step will begin next year! Good christmas holiday to everybody!

It looks like you have a beautiful location!

Keep the updates coming!

What will you be using the facility for primarily?
What is your background?

Brenton 21st December 2011 01:13 AM

Cool stuff. Good luck with it.

I'll post news as fast as I can. The inside plans should come by the end of the month. As it's a first floor facility, we are planing to set up a lift for back line. That's what I'm working on for now. We also wait for the lounge plan (Giga architect).
I start doing a lot of home records, first for friends and than other bands. They start to pay,...but not that much.
So now I earn my living on live PA. I work on a cultural center ( and as freelance (PA and some times studio). Building a recording studio ad always be my first goal.
I'l try to post a picture of my actual "room". I use it to mix my live recording (i live-dante-protools9-ipad). The future control room will still be use for that. It will be a 5.1 CR. The live room will be one large place. It will be rent for recording and it will also forward be residencial.

Actual mixing place
here is my CR in a rehearsal room for now.

One year after...
Building has finally restarted. It's a DIY project and I also had build a small warehouse for my tools, that explain the schedule.

lupanar 9th December 2012 04:33 PM

here is a quick view of its construction. Not directly linked to the studio but needed to build it.

Love your build man! Especially because it's in an 18th century barn! Nice job with the new garage too, looks like it's been there just as long as the rest.

Many thanks! :) Yes, it's an old farm, recycled. And all the material come from close to here (factory at 20km). So it's kind a ecological construction.

Actually, the garage bricks are second hand. They came from other buildings demolitions. So they match well.

Syncamorea 10th December 2012 03:29 PM

Keep the photos coming. It's great to see DIY'ers that think big!

lupanar 10th December 2012 05:54 PM

j type
ok, one last now, cause I actually post "live" and my work is at the point you see. Next step is the lift and inner framework for Christmas holiday.

It's the desk that will be used for tracking.

And why not a link to my fb page:

nucelar 10th December 2012 06:19 PM

Congratulations on the build and thanks for sharing!
Just as something to keep in mind, if you ever have spanish customers, they may smile about the studio's name choice gooof
Or maybe you are running a side business?

lupanar 15th December 2012 07:04 PM

the lift is there. It took me and friends some times to move it to its place. It will be use for bring the material up and when the construction work will be done, it will move the back line and my desk.
