Favorite low-end secret weapons...

Zoom 1201 kfhkh

I know, I know, it may be a crap box, but I love that thing!

What's yours?

Boss CE-300. Costs $60 bucks at musicgoround, makes other synths sound enough like a Juno that I sold my Juno.

Oli 16th September 2011 05:55 AM

Digitech StudioQuad V2. I don't know why it gets maligned so much. Can sound fantastic. It's no Eventide for sure, but can do good things. It was almost my only effects for quite a while, and I learnt it pretty well.

Maybe add to that an XD-5 and an RM50.

Free softies as well, of course. I still like AXS 2.03+.

Bumply 16th September 2011 06:09 AM

A dirty tascam portastudio. Sometimes running audio into one of those cassette to cd car adaptors and then through it's EQ.

Good one, I've done that and it can get great results (epecially if the tape is a bit screwed up!) kfhkh

Two low end compressors - ART Pro VLA and the FMR RNC.

skyshooter 16th September 2011 06:44 AM

Still use some old effects low end wise, Alesis MicroGate/Microverb/MicroEQ in one rack, Quadraverb II, Boss SE-50, Digitech DSP128+, Oberheim Cyclone, Yamaha SPX-90.

Not so low end, more mid range:
Lexicon PCM41/42/70, MXR-126 Flanger/Doubler, Korg Wavestation A/D.

Really want an Eventide Harmonizer 3000 series or better, someday!

watari banzai 16th September 2011 06:57 AM

all of my stuff is low end hidz

i love my deltalabs effectron I. its almost a musical instrument

what do you use it for? ive used it for the ringmod once or twice..

seancostello 16th September 2011 07:06 AM

Big Muff. Put a 1-osc monosynth through it, crank the resonance of the synth filter, and you get a pseudo hard sync sound out.

I gotta check out that Boss CE-300...

djugel 16th September 2011 07:12 AM

Boss CE2 - hard to go past guitar pedals when it comes to bang for buck.
Boss Classics

shadowfac 16th September 2011 07:32 AM

Korg ER-1 and Monotron... especially when used together.

djugel 16th September 2011 07:35 AM

Damn I still want a CE-2 ... too much money for me tho...

btw - I always wondered.. wouldn't the CE-2B be better for synths?

Rob The Viking 16th September 2011 08:46 AM

Little labs vog on a kick drum or Minimoog bass..

Also a raven piano bass. Amazing

msl 16th September 2011 08:50 AM

Alesis MetaVox (got it for €40)
Oceanus Digital Dub Siren (€90)
Old Marshall 6 channel mixer from the 70's, heaven on 909's! (€50)
Audio Damage Rat Shack reverb (€39)

Alesis Wedge. they are just so easy to use.

acreil 16th September 2011 01:55 PM

The Roland VP-70 can do some extremely strange things if properly abused, and I've gotten sounds out of the Yamaha RX5 that I haven't heard anywhere else. I also manage to work a Korg KR-55B into the most inappropriate places.

I actually got one of those a few days ago.

peter_martin 16th September 2011 02:52 PM

Trillian plus Moog filter (or any good outboard ana filter) equals awesome.

Dono though its been working well for me on some new stuff. Trying a new direction, but I've been into the heavy future cyborg german techno thing and Trillian plus Moog filter phonez.

DMD 1&2 are pretty stellar for awesome deep chest hitters for kicks and drums.

duggabax 16th September 2011 03:08 PM

big muff eh? i'll have to try this, i know i've got one laying around.

2nd for the tascam porta (I use a 488 mkii)...nothing beats recording your tracks and then sloooowing everything down a bit. or even tweaking the playback knob for tape-induced pitchbend!

SWAN808 16th September 2011 05:09 PM

focusrite compounder - great for adding 'bass expander' beef to the drum bus that I cant get ITB...
