Hi friends, what are your top 12, most used plugins within PT TDM sessions?

I start it with

So I will cut and paste. updating with the massenberg.
And know I did not add autotune...

Ok. Actually seeing I have a lot of plugins I probably get away with less then 10.
1) Massenberg EQ. So far really nice, not on DSP or latecney but sounds reall cool and smooth
2) Sony EQ with GML. Now 2nd Best EQ. Although honeymoon period with Massenberg
3) Sony Compressor.
Just clean and no smear.
4) Reverb One.
I use hardly any reverb compared to years ago. Sold my PCM91 and kept the software verb.
5) Digi delay. It just works..
6) Soundblender.. For all other FX.
7) Ampfarm. Easy to use and a few of the amps actually sound ok. Good for control room overdubs.
8) Mcdsp Mc2000..It works when a single comp and eq has problems.
9) Digi 1 band for hi or low pass. Cheap DSP.
10) Digi Time Adjustor on drums.
11) Some limiter I use DUY Max as I got the duy bundle. Inflator is cool. never liked L1, L2 sounds better.
I have a lot of plugins, they cost a lot of $$'s. Hind sight plugins really are a bad investment as you get no or little resale.
Although depends on the outboard you have.
I have a better list of outboard which means I have to color things less inside PT. As such use my DUY stuff less and less.
Although the Sony are real good compared to my outboard eq's and the Comp just clean

I am amazed nobody mentioned Waves Linear Phase and C4.

e-cue, do you like Digi comp? Do you use digirack of PT5/MIx or of PT6/HD?

It's the most underated drum comp out there. I don't use it on much else. I'm on PT5, most of the time. I've tried not the switch between the two since the first time I experenced the "plug in zeroing" from going from HD back to a TDM.

what do you mean zeroing? you lose your presets or plugins disappear due to ilok s!!!?

i think he is referring to when all your plug-in settings revert back to their initialized state. happened to me years ago when switching from one Waves version to another. hasn't happened since though.

it's a total pain in the butt. on a plug-in dense mix, you pretty much have to remix from scratch.

Exactly. Open up the session and bam: all your plug ins show up, but all of your settings are flat. I think the work around is to just do a "Save Session Copy". Blah. This is why I stay away from crossbreading the systems. Of course, this stuff only happens when the President of Warner Bros is waiting to hear the stuff...

i wonder how much people feel their choices are based on general "quality" issues or are due to the specific demands/tastes of the genre they work in.

7. UAD Pultec (THE bottom end plugin)
8. Amplitube
9. RenEQ 4 (meat 'n taters, gets used less each day)
10. SonicTimeworks EQ (the resonant hi/lo pass filters rock for FX)
11. Dave Brown De'esser (underrated)
12. UAD1 Nigel (some components are great for general FX)


OTOH, pretty much hate Waves C4, L2. The Paris single band comp slays both with ease, even on the stereo bus. I have no use for the Waves Q series at all. Most of the Waves FX stuff seems pretty one trick to me.

I need to check out the Ohmboys and Voxengo stuff a little more. Hear good things about them. Had a TC Powercore...it was a yawner for me. The UAD stuff is very hard to beat in Native land, especially with the addition of Cambridge.

And if you're not hip to Drumagog, you don't know what you're missing. By far the finest drum replacer in any format, TDM included. It's an idiot-proof, super consistent triggering, multi-layered, multi-sample-per-layer, genius plugin for us mixers.

cambridge vs other uad eq
 

Hey Brian and other uad-1 owners,
I tried the cambridge and thought it sounded really good but I think the eq in the channelstrip section of the uad-1 sounds pretty bad.I actually prefer the channel eq in logic 6 over the latter.What do y'all think?

Brian, do ya think that Q10 and C4 sucks?
When you insert a hpf at the Q10, with input signals close to 0dB it really distorts horribly, but it is due to ringing/phase shift. Well, I do like q6 for track inserts. Along with Compressor bank, they do the basic to me.

I agree. The EQ on the UAD-1 Channel Strip is pretty bad. OTOH, the CS compressor is pretty cool on overheads and room mics.
