please help load protools free on my ibook

hi guys. i'm a total mac newbie. i just got this machine today and i'm trying to load protools free. i get the following message "the disk with your preferred destination folder is currently locked - error 44". i'm sure this is an easy one but i'm stumped. can you help me out? i am running on 9.2 at the moment coz i'm told protools free doesn't work on os 10.

Sounds like you're trying to install the software onto the CD drive - have you tried changing where you install to, or dragging the folder from the CD onto the desktop first (before trying to install)?

ok thanks for that. i dragged the file onto the desktop, then clicked on it and it unstuffs. now i have a protools icon on my desktop. when i click on it i get another message "the document "protools" could not be opened, because the application program that created it could not be found. could not find a translation extension with appropriate translators". wtf?

as for changing where i am installing to, how do i do that?? i think its currently trying to install into the applications file. when i had the machine set up i had it set so i can boot into os9 or os10. the apps file is for os10 i think and is locked when i boot into os9. i think maybe that is why i got the original error message? man maybe i should read the manual or something. i'm flying blind here.

No, the reason you were getting the error in the first case was because it was trying to unstuff the file to a read only media (the CD).

a wtf file is (from the top of my head) a text document.

May I suggest looking at http://www.digidesign.com/ptfree/ptfree_qa.html

And reading the instructions there - it clearly tells you how to install the software.
