Gearslutz (
-   So Much Gear, So Little Time (
-   -   MASSIVE hum (

I was playing my guitar yesterday, and suddenly, the sound cuts out, even on both pickups. I plug the lead into other guitars, no problem.

I open up the back of the LP and find a wire from the jack had come off, so I re solder it back.

Now I can hear the guitar, on top of this insanely loud low frequency hum.

If I need to post a sound clip later I will, but just incase, does anyone know the problem? It literally cut out for no reason mid song, I assumed it was the wire that was disconnected, reconnected and now I can hear the guitar underneath the 3x louder hum.

any help?

you've soldered the wrong thing in the wrong place, or need to solder something else, or what you did has come unattached.

look up a wiring diagram online to help, eg: les paul wiring diagram - Google Images
