Orchestra Sample Libraries set up on Laptob with firewire audio interface

Hello,

I have a macbook pro with apogee ensemble audio interface implemented through firewire.

i have a motif xs that i hook through usb as midi controller, and spdif for audio. (i'd like to have it through firewire, but it doesn't coexist well with the ensemble's firewire driver.)

1) so, saying that, i am really looking to get an orchestra library (i.e. garritan personal orchestra, east west symphonic orchestra) but i know i need a dedicated fast hardrive to stream the samples over. how can i work this since i already have the ensemble using up the firewire port?

2) and also, does anyone know if any softward out there has the portamento (slur) articluation for strings so i can go from one note to another without any separation at all, like a real string instrument?

Please let me know. Thanks!
