Safe n Sound thickness for a DIY vocal booth

Hi! My first post here after years of creeping the boards.

I made a small vocal "booth" (approx 7 ft high, 4 ft long, 4 ft wide) out of 12" thick Safe n Sound bass traps earlier this year with great success (see photo). By great success, I mean it sucked all the reflection out of the room, and the voice still sounded natural and balanced.

The thing is, I am recording at a new location and no longer have access to those 12" bass traps. I am looking into making some new traps to put together another "booth" much like the one in the photo.

I am wondering, for JUST male vocals, how thick should I make my bass traps? Can I go lower than 12"? It would be nice if I could make shallower traps to save money and space.

Also, I know that it's not optimal that the area near my feet is not covered. It didn't seem to make much of a difference in the recording though. Also, the traps in the foreground were on wheels so I could seal the singer inside. I just pulled them out to get a better picture of the inside.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

8" is the minimum thickness I recommend.

Many thanks! Been following your posts for years. Nice to get a reply from THE MAN himself.
