Is it ok for acoustic panels to stick out a bit?

Hi, I'm trying to build my first DIY acoustic panels and just ran into a small trouble.

I bought 1x6 furring strips to build frames out of, thinking they were 1 inch by 6 inches, only to find out that they're actually 3/4 inch by 5 1/2 inches.

The rigid boards that I'm trying to use are 1 1/2 inches thick, so I want to try fitting 4 of these in there, which would result in 1/2 inch of the rigid board sticking out of the frame.

I'm just wondering if that would be ok in terms of functionality of the panels?
