Mysterious Audio Dropouts in Live 9

Hey all,

I'm having some super strange audio dropouts in Ableton Live 9. Using a mid 2012 Macbook pro with 8gb ram, 2.5 GHz i5 processor, 500GB hard disk drive. Ableton's CPU meter never goes above 35%, but according to Activity Monitor it's hitting the mid 80s. Also, the D light in the top right corner never flashes. I've got 26 audio tracks and 1 midi track. I'm using a FireFace 800, but the problem is still there going straight out of my computer's headphone jack.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When this happens next time open Terminal (In Applications/Utilities) and issue this command:
Code:

top -o CPU
followed with a return. What's running in top 5?

Hey all, I got to the bottom of this - it was a rogue plugin (Cakewalk CA2A) that needed updating. Annoying thing is, the updated version can only be used in Live 10

I have that one and never noticed an issue in Live 9. Though I don't use it that much. Could you share more details?

Which version specifically? The latest CA-2A I get from Cakewalk Command center is 2.0.1.112 and this has an AU version. You're on a Mac and can use that, can you not?

Some people have suggested this plug-in is inferior to other LA-2A emulating plug-ins. I haven't done a shoot-out.

Well, this was interesting. Now, all of a sudden I'm having mysterious dropouts with simple playback in Live. I do think this involves dpc latency and my graphics, but I need to investigate further.

I do currently have other issues on this old thing running macOS 10.12.6, like the internal won't boot properly, so I'm currently booted from a backup and am waiting for the internal to be saved to another disk.

While all of that I noticed that also this bootable backup (from August) has the same dropouts. There is one major difference since a few days ago when I didn't have this issue and that is I that changed from "standards mode" to the usual driver mode in my RME Babyface, just last night. Hmmm.

**edit**
OK, so I have a throttling problem at my hands. kernel_task is running havoc. The question is why. This only happens when Live is on the screen, so if I operate from the Push and the Live GUI is hidden there's no throttling. Temps are normal, so it's not heat as far as I can tell.
