history of pro ribbon drivers: Stage Accompany vs Alcons

Is anyone familiar with the history of pro ribbon drivers in touring PA systems? I heard an Alcons system just recently (sounded very nice btw) but their 6" (or maybe it was the 4"?) ribbon looked suspiciously like the Stage Accompany ribbon drivers I used to use ~20 years ago. When I asked the Alcons rep about this he did some handwaving and said something about Alcons being founded by ex-SA employees. Anyone know the real scoop?
Thanks.

It's exactly what the Alcons rep said. Alcons was founded by ex-SA empolyees.

dunno about the history of ribbon drivers.

i got to mix on sa gear back in the days but it's been years now since i last stumbled across a (working) system... (btw: what happened to prince's purple lacquered system?)

there have been huge advances in power amp and driver technology for conventional woofers so i doubt they hold up well in general - could be though that the ribbons still do?

i'm not much of a fan of integrated systems but in terms of sound quality, alcons is clearly amongst the best manufacturers!
