Midi or synthesizer?

Been at this a couple years now and have slowly built up a decent pallet of plugins and also own the micro brute.

Can anyone reccomend a decent piano synth , I been looking at the roland ds61 and the yamaha mx49. Also are these used much in any dance music productions? Or will I just be buying a glorified keyboard and wasting £500. It wouldnt harm me to learn a bit more piano, I'm a bass player by heart but if anyone could point out some tracks or at the least some user experience it will be much appreciated. Thanks

For 500, you could go and buy second hand a really decent 61 key controller and probably 2 good sound modules with piano sounds and a whole lot more. It depends on how realistic you want the piano experience to be, e.g. weighted keys, very accurate multi sampled Steinway etc.
