Question regarding headphone distortion

Hey guys,

I bought a used pair of AKGs 702 which I am running through my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2.

The problem I'm having is that if I crank up the volume the headphones start buzzing/distorting and I'm not sure if this is because I'm not using a headphone amplifier or whether this is means that the headphones are damaged.

Can you guys please advise ?

The focusrite should't have any problem driving this headphone.
So I'm guessing the headphone is damaged or you are just cranking them up to loud.

If you can rule out that what ever you are playing is fine with other headphones and studio monitors, then yes, its your headphones that are faulty for sure.
