Chromebook Just for Running Google Docs?

Ok, maybe not music production per se, but no idea where better to post this. I use Google Docs for songwriting and want to pick up a cheap Chromebook that I can just carry with me everywhere. I've checked a bunch of review sites but they all seem focused on things I don't care about. I don't care at all about a touch sensitive screen, 360 degree hinges, streaming media, apps, etc., etc. I really just use it for writing. So the only things really I care about are:
  • a keyboard that feels good to type on
  • decent looking screen (for text applications; not for movie watching or games)
  • battery life

Any recommendations?

If you live in the U.S. I would suggest going to BestBuy. They typically have a number of different Chromebooks in the store. You can select one with a screen and keyboard you like, and buy it the same day.

Check out the Acer lineup. I've had an Acer R11 as my main laptop for a few years now and it's still going strong. Has all the features you want.

You're probably going to get some of those bells and whistles whether you like them or not, but I've had really good experience with ASUS chromebook. You should check their product line and see if something is suitable. Also, you could consider an ebay ipad with one of those external keyboards....

For Google related applications, I would recommend a Chromebook for sure! But the problem is they don't really have the power to do anything much more than the internet abduction

The educators and experts say that you can do anything on a Chromebook but I don't think that I want to put my whole life in the tender loving hands of the biggest and most powerful and most evil corporation that ever was.
