Philippe Zdar, of Cassius, has died. RIP.

My french is poor, but from the link below, it appears he fell from the 11th floor of an apartment building Wednesday night.

That's very sad. I loved Cassius...

A very important man who mixed or otherwise worked on many albums I grew up with. Shaping me and my own tastes, in part.

Qu'il repose en paix

Awful news. I'd just like to point out that his name is spelled "Philippe."
The least we can do is get his name right.

So sad to hear. Seemed like such a bold, inventive, talented guy. There are some great youtube videos of him I've enjoyed.

Jon Silva 20th June 2019 02:50 PM

A constant of my youth. Usually, celebrity deaths do not phase me that much but this one does :(
Rest in peace.

Totally shocked cassius 1999 is my favourite CD too drive too.. Next time I goto work ill have it on extra loud kfhkh

I always thought he never got the credit or respect he deserved. Daft punk are great but it seems they get all the glory and all the hype and it never filters down onto other great French house acts.

It was actually the railing of the balcony he was standing on that broke. Eerily , it was the same circumstances that lead to DJ Mehdi's (a close collaborator of Zdar and part of his Ed Banger label) death many years ago . The glass mezannine he was standing on in his appartment with 2 other people broke and they fell thru it.

Paris ( and many parts of old Europe ) has unfortunately many very old buildings that are dangerously close to breaking apart at whim...

New Cassius album “Dreems” just dropped.

Here’s a single.

Such a great musician.

I still remember sitting out the front of a club having a smoke with a few mates when this first came out. Such a great house track back then that still holds it own today.
