Inside the head localisation with headphones

Good day to you!

Does anyone here has information on how to deliberately evoke a in-the-head localization of a sound, particular of speech?

Have a listen to the two samples on this german wiki page:

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Im-Kopf-Lokalisation

I'm looking to recreate the IKL (inside the head localization) effect, presented in the second recording, especially when listening through headphones.

Could we think about how this particular effect is achieved? Or does anyone have some information about the phenomena?

All I can find deals with avoiding in-the-head sensation.
Upon hearing, it feels like it has to do with the phase of the sound but would be happy to discover some information about what's going on and how it was made.

Thank you!
Chris

Hi Chris,

In the "Sprachbeispiel mit IKL (Kopfhörer verwenden)" one channel has a reversed polarity.

Playing this sample in mono will cause phase cancellation, due to which only size compression artefacts will be audiable (the sample is an Ogg Vorbis Audio File).

Sincerely,

Haha, it's really that simple... :)
I really didn't think about the obvious. Wondered why there was something left phase flipped... Anyway, thank you very much!

It is Wikipedia, after all.
