Can't trigger vitual synths with MIDI

This is strange. I have MIDI tracks in an existing project that can trigger my virtual synths (such as REFEX Nexus2) as expected when playing the song. And when I play my MicroKey midi controller I see the MIDI activity light go on and off accordingly. But I cannot hear any notes from the synth when playing keys on my MicroKey! Yes I turned on the monitor button for the MIDI track. No sound. Any idea how to get this working? It was working before I was meddling with settings. I've tried turning various settings on and off to no avail.

Nuendo 7
RME Babyface
Korg MicroKey

That sounds like a good idea. I'm not even sure how to identify what MIDI channel a MIDI track is set to.

Still trying to figure out what the hell is preventing me from being able to play sounds or record MIDI notes. Maybe some screenshots will help.

at the left side of your track on Cubase you have to select input and output. From the drop down menu on input you should be able to select your midi controller.

I have selected all MIDI inputs. I also tried selecting my Korg Micro. Didn't help.
I am going to swap in a backed up C drive and take note of various settings before this happened.

Select "any" at the channel setting on the track.

Alright I took snapshots of settings from a cloned drive from before this happened. That allowed me to figure this one out.
I turned OFF the "1" channel button on the "MIDI - MIDI Filter" page. Problem solved. See first image above. That page.
