It doesn’t. The OP is speculating.

Avid have switched to a monthly subscription business model and now number their updates according to the year and month the update comes out. I'd be more surprised and concerned if avid didn't come out with PT2019

I understand that, but given this was posted in the subforum of NAMM 2019, the OP is suggesting it will be launched then specifically, of which I've seen no evidence. It goes without saying that PT2019 will be launched somewhere in 2019.
Considering the 2018 releases weren't exactly monthly either (more like quarterly) and we just had an update in November, it is certainly not a given that PT2019 will be launched at NAMM.

Of course it would be nice, even if only we get a preview of what's to come.

Are the HD cards still necessary

The short answer is ”no”. For a select few it may be “yes”.

So many things they should do but won't. Best for business though, announcing a full version of pro tools and every avid plug in on iOS is the smartest direction to go. Money wise, just an opinion.

~ufo~ 13th January 2019 08:23 AM

A full fledged iOS DAW is a good idea, certainly when you keep the performance of the iPad Pro in mind.
Could the iPad pro drive a second, large (touch) screen? The surface pro could.
Just think about how cool that would be for love and (home) studio use...

Still, I doubt Avid will be the one to build that DAW. it would more likely be Bitwig or Steinberg or (hello!) Apple’s Logic Pro.

There. Fixed. ;)

clearwave 13th January 2019 05:20 PM

I hope it does what Apple Logic X does, but more expensive.

jono_3 13th January 2019 07:09 PM

My hope is that they open up track lane counts so non-HD users can work with ambisonics.

clivvy 13th January 2019 07:25 PM

protools 2019 Avid needs to fix CPU overload problem that would be a nice upgrade!

Not for us regular PT users... that's just what they need... to be stretched even thinner!!!

Well yeah you're right but iOS would make them a nice profit. They seem to care more about money and if they'd like to see tons of money fill their pocket a full version of Pro Tools on iOS would do just that. I'd rather get a fun new iOS toy over a fake upgrade.

Like I said, it doesn’t have to be PT, nor is it very likely to be.

I was talking more in terms of manpower... It's unlikely they'd hire new people for it's development, or add more support staff relative to the new userbase.

~ufo~ 13th January 2019 11:08 PM

Agreed. They need all hands on deck.
