Welcome Erol Alkan

For our next Q&A guest, we've managed to secure a very talented producer from the UK. His name is Erol Alkan and he's doing a LOT of different things!

Since founding his seminal club night ‘Trash' in 1997, London resident Erol Alkan has gradually become one of the most consistent and still somehow unpredictable figures in British alternative music. Known to many for his remarkable electronic DJ sets at many well known clubs and festivals, Alkan has also forged a career as a producer of bands and as a notable remixer as well. He's shown an innate knowledge of pop, rock, dance and indie, and he blends his diverse influences with his work in electronic music production.

New Order - Singularity (Erol Alkan's Extended Rework)

Connan Mockasin 'Forever Dolphin Love (Erol Alkan's Extended Rework)'

Tame Impala 'Why Wont You Make Up Your Mind (Erol Alkan's Extended Rework)'

Metronomy 'The Bay (Erol Alkan Extended Rework)'

Justice 'Waters Of Nazereth (Erol Alkan's Durrr Durr Durrr Rework)'

Through his label (‘Phantasy'), Alkan has helped realise the sonic vision of emerging artists such as Daniel Avery, Ghost Culture, Connan Mockasin, Kamera and Babe Terror, often utilising ‘The Phantasy Sound’, a bespoke dynamic studio and playback environment within his North London home.

Prior to his label work, Alkan also produced acclaimed LPs from bands such as The Long Blondes, Mystery Jets, and the debut LP from Late Of The Pier, ‘Fantasy Black Channel’, considered by some critics to be an "instant cult classic". His selected history of solo remixes encompasses New Order, Daft Punk, Tame Impala, Hot Chip, Justice, Kindness, Franz Ferdinand, Manic Street Preachers and Metronomy, and that's just a small selection of his sizeable body of remix work.

Daniel Avery 'Drone Logic' (Executive Production and Mix by Erol Alkan)'

Mystery Jets 'Two Doors Down' (Produced by Erol Alkan)'

In 2016 Alkan (via Phantasy) is going to release the debut LP from Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve. This studio partnership with Richard Norris of 'The Grid', is, in Alkan’s own words, a "cosmic brotherhood." Long awaited by fans of contemporary psychedelia, it sees Alkan move deeper into other influences, delving into full studio production, rather than just sample and re-animation work that the duo have previously explored with notable success (including The Chemical Brothers, Goldfrapp, Midlake as well as remixing the debut Temples album in full). The first single, 'Diagram Girl', featuring the vocals of rising talent Hannah Peel, can be streamed here -

Temples 'Sun Restructured' (Beyond The Wizards Sleeve Re-Animation)

Following over five years hosting a regular show on BBC 6Music’s ‘6Mix,' Alkan is set to continue his radio presence on 'Boiler Room.' He is the first DJ they've offered an audio focused residency on the popular underground music platform and the first edition is archived for playback - you can check that out here -

In short, Erol is one very busy individual with a notable track record in various genres, and a multi-faceted carreer. A genuine producer octopus with a wealth of experience! ;)
