Multiple Compressors

Hey Rob

I know you're a fan of using multiple compressors in series.

Can you elaborate on this approach for the following applications?

Application to Kick
Application to Bass
Application to Drum Bus
Application to Master Bus

Some information that would be useful in your response would be:
  • which type of compressor goes first in the chain and then what type of compressor follows it
  • what are the settings for the first compressor vs. the second
  • what are you listening for/trying to achieve with the first compressor vs. the second (or third/fourth compressor)
  • examples of compressors (both HW and SW) as a good starting point

Thanks a lot!
