dolby formats

Hello guys,

I am quite new at working on post production for movies and similar stuff.
I received a project to do a 5.1 mix and one of the criteria that the mix level should be Leq(m) strictly 82 measured on Dolby 737 meter(any opinions on this?) and it says that PCM header will be provided for me. How I should apply PCM metadata to the project files? I am working on PT HD8

Best,

Ramil

first, you should read some of the stickies, especially the calibration thread. the specs you mention allude to a mix made in a calibrated environment and measured with a dolby meter (leqm) They're asking this because they want the mix to play at a standardized and reasonable volume. you need to calibrate the room, then mix to taste and finally adjust to hit the dolby level.

As far as pcm headers, well pcm data is audio stream data used in wav and aiff formats. what they're most likely asking for, and most people do, is for a mix in broadcast wave (PT's native format), where they'd like 6 tracks, 1 for each channel (5.1) all the same length and mixed - you're output bounce.

other delivery formats are dolby e, ltrt, ac3 etc.... most of the time though it's 6 straight wav tracks that the editor will marry to the video, or you must layback to a tape.
