outside reverb

Hi all,

When placing/mixing Sound Effects, and the actors on screen are outside, I always seem to have a little trouble finding the right reverb. with all sorts of rooms and chambers, I pretty fast hear in my head what I'm looking for and getting the verb I want goes relatively fast. But with those outside scenes I find myself fiddling the controls without a real starting point.

Anyone any tips to share on the subjest?

My best luck has been with impulse verbs. Find a good impulse as a starting point then tweak whatever variables you can to lock it down well. I just did this yesterday for some sounds occurring in a small town area. Came out pretty well.

A slappy, bit echo-kind of reverb well tuned to suit your taste at a moderate level does the trick mostly for me...

Play a bit with the pre- and reverb delay of your unit.

I use my System 6000 where I've a few exterior-rev's prepped.

Kind regards from Belgium

sometimes running a delay before the reverb can help create what you're looking for

I usually have better luck with heavily filtered slaps than reverbs.

TC S6000 "Backyard Qtc" for yards, streets
Lexicon 960 "Echo Plate" for rather open spaces
Both ideas - credits to my teacher Dmitri Nagorny
