First TV-production! need workflow advice! (dialog, fx etc)

This week im going to start editing my first TV production.
It was recorded this summer and now the pictured is locked and its
up to me to clean that dialog and make the final touch!

I need some nice workflow advice Im using:

DNS200
Massenburg EQ
MD3 multiband comp.

How schuld I work with the cedar? Schuld I bounce my finished Cedar treated channels or is automation the best way?

How do you work?

Do you keep everything "open" thru automation so nothing is permanent, or do you have many different kind of sessions for dialog, fx, and final project?

Screenshots are very welcome! I need to get inspiration from other setups.

regards
Benny

Personally, when I mix ITB, I tend to mix entirely virtual, and do a final record pass at the very end, after all the changes and fixes are done.
Make sure you turn on the a"create auto backup". You'll want that when PT's decides to wipe out half an hour of material of automation.

You can do a premix on the dialog first, and not worry about the CEDAR in the mix. It all depends on how much time you have.
On a final one- man mix, I use one session.
If it's a 2 man mix, there are 2 sessions, 2 set-ups.
What other plug-ins do you have?
I use either Q10 or equim for notchfilters, to get rid of buzzes, hums and whistles.

I also still use the C4 for really noisy scenes even after using the CEDAR and Notchfilters.
Also, don't forget to add a de-esser to that chain as well.

Thanks for the reply!

The show im going to mix is a series of 8 episodes / 5 minutes.

There are 6 different characters and the location is a school both inside and outside.

The sound from the set is good ( I recorded it ) Some traffic sound on
the outside scenes and a little reverbation from some of the class rooms.
-----------------------------

My plan for the session was to start cleaning the dialog in all the episodes.
Im not a experienced Cedar user so im not shure how much i shuld clean up.

In this case, make a session just for dialog and then import it to the final session?

Maybe som scenes are possible to clean very much, but its better to keep a
constant low noise than make some scenes very clean and others noisy.

How hard do you often hit the Cedar? super clean ore som kind of smooth expanding?

Is there like a must have plugins that you think we should have Im very interested!
Im not that happy with the Deesser we have? Is the waves R Deesser the thing?

Do you have a session ide for the workflow, I like to test new things!

You need an eq that has a very narrow Q. Equim is great for that, or the Q series.
As far as de-essers. I still use the standard waves de-esser. The R-de-esser would work fine as well.
Since the shows are so short, I would probably just do everything in the same session in one go. This way, with the added BG's etc., you'll find that you won't have to push as hard on the reduction.

It's not clean, but smooth you are after. You can actually clean too much, and the artifacts can become strange in the DX. You just don't want to hear the DX tracks jump from perspective to perspective. It should be relatively seamless. EQ, a little compression, and leveling are your main tools. The Cedar is icing on the cake. A Dolby Cat. 43 is very helpful for hiss on those tracks you have to level up, because they were under recorded. The Cedar is very intuitave. It takes about 5 minutes to read the manual. I work pretty much the same way as Mark, except I use the DNS1000 and the Dolby unit, so I have to rerecord some of the DX.
Good luck!
