Sub in upmixing rockmusic for theather

I'm doing a rockumentary that will have a token theatrical release on DCP. I'm upmixing the music with the NuGen plugin and the budget only allows the final mix to be done in my small room.

I usually don't use the LFE part for music upmixing, but in this case I like what it's doing, in my room..

So I guess the question is, what are you're experiences with adding weight to rockmusic with the LFE for a theater. I want to avoid a mudfest, but it does sound appropriate in my room. I do have a "fast" sub (Amphion flexbase 25), which maybe works better for this kind of thing than the slower ones in a theater.

thoughts?

There are basically two choices. None is better than the other unless you know the theaters this is going to be played in.
1.: Play it safe and don't use the LFE. In small theaters levels are often all over the place, so this is one variable less that can mess things up
2.: Mix it so that it sounds good on a calibrated mixing system (so in your case with LFE) because this maybe best reflects the middle of a bell-curve like distribution from too little to too much bass bass response in typical small theaters.

Pick your poison.
