In windows 10 you just eject it normally and it will disappear from workspace.
I can't remember correctly but I think in earlier versions there was unmount option in warkspace too but it seems that now that does not exist anymore.

I've found It's the video engine. If your session used video on a drive, it won't eject it with PT open.... And they removed the option from within protools workspace to eject drives.

Just eject from the Finder. As long as files on that drive aren't being used.
I don't have any issues about video (once again, as long as files aren't in use on the open session.)

I re-investigated to make sure I wasn't crazy. I can repeat this 100% of the time on SOME of my drives?...

1. Open PT
2. Create new session
3. Import video and play it once
4. Close session (keep PT open)
5. in finder try to eject drive that had video on it, and I get the "couldn't be ejected because Pro Tools is using it" error

If Session and Video are on different drive, drive without the video can be ejected no problem.

BUT

Here are the 3 drives I am testing with.
2TB Glyph Studio (has the problem)
1TB Glyph Atom SSD (DOESN'T have the problem)
500GB Glyph Atom SSD (has the problem)

As far as I can tell they are all formatted the same way... they are all plugged in USB3 via the same hub.

I tested with the same video on all 3 drives using the same procedure every time.

In my anecdotal experience, the one that works is the anomaly...

Can anyone make sense of this?

This seems to be the norm with Protools, I have the same experience.
It used to be you eject from the workspace, but that feature is gone with 12.
