Home Studio Building Project

Currently building my 5th home studio. Follow progress here:

Step 1: Photo by justincase_dubs • Instagram

Building desk, sizing up monitors, roughly aim for 38% into the room.

-Make sure room isn't perfect square and your listening position is not seated in the middle of it. Room nodes around the centre of the room can cause massive drop outs of the low end

Step 2: Photo by justincase_dubs • Instagram

Position monitors in rough position ready to install sound cards and perform 1st listening test..

-Raise your monitors so the tweeters sit at ear level, I have used the foam that came in the box with the speakers for this task, I will reinforce later.
-Keep monitors as centered as possible in room from left to right.
-You are aiming for an equal distance between your head and each speaker, also the speakers should be that same distance apart.

Step 3: Photo by justincase_dubs • Instagram

Setup soundcard, measure equal triangle, perform listening tests to hear the sound before room treatment

-Install soundcard and layout equipment in approx positions
-Measure equalateral triangle from speaker-->speaker-->chair (listening position)
-Play music you are familiar with through system and take notice of how the room sounds untreated
-Run 'Simple Feedback Trainer' program (Click here to download ---> Simple Feedback Trainer)
-Listen for boomy notes, listen for boxyness and notes that stand out, this is not good, we want even response over as many frequencies as possible once room is treated
