Hello all, as there hasn't been a progress update for a little while I'll sneak one in from camp Analogue Baby here.

The studio is very, very close to the end of construction now. Decoration is almost complete; our stellar joiner Graham is doing final bits of nosing and edging to finish off skirting and steps, the internal doors/diffusers/thresholds etc have all been expertly french polished and we've been doing the final bits of wiring for television and camera feeds.

Chubbfingers and I have been finalising the layout of the control room and machine room gear today which has been outrageously exciting! The spec for the room is, frankly, beyond world class - I've never seen a room so well-equipped - and it's been an interesting process making sure it all works ergonomically. One fantastic aspect is that we have the bantam patch bay directly behind the engineer in two taller racks, so to patch gear in the engineer need simply turn around from the desk. Outward from that are EQs and the more boutique compressors and limiters so that the engineer can remain in the sweet spot while fine-tuning. On the extreme left rack go more workhorse dynamics processors, while on the far right by the live room window will live the preamps and channel strips. A further rack to the left of the console will house the digital gear, including three pieces of mastering-grade Weiss gear, as well as AES patch and any additional FX that cannot be remotely controlled.

Figuring out the cabling required and getting it terminated is more of a brain-melter, and rather less fun, but we're getting there! Chubbs and I will be getting the outboard patching layout done in the next few days all being well. Once those things are done, the gear can start going in the racks... nerdvana!

Yes an API vision would be great for our "C" room in the future!

("B" room would have to be a DFC I think!)

There was a lot of prior planning on my part for one. Andy did the right thing and kept the patch delivery back until we were completely ready for it. The racks were built perfectly by Graham which helped. The execution of getting them from the wooden scaffold was masterminded by Neil McCombie from Scotch McNeil Audio. Neil was at the helm for the whole operation. With him in charge we all followed his instructions and it went without any hitches. We had some great help on the day from our assistants too who learned a lot about cable instilation!

Great work; your perforated pannels and the colors of your studio reminds me of one of the best Spanish studios: PKO:
http://www.pko.es/html_english/photo...eng/index.html
..and they have a great list of gear, too: I saw in a session more than 6 Massive Passives, for instance...
I really wish the best for you and all of us in these difficult times. Will stay on tune.

P.S. I'm glad to see you chose ATC monitors, as I also have bought a pair recently (SCM100, my room and budget are obviously smaller than yours), they're going to be my last big buy for decades I'm afraid...

The patchbay photos are boggling my brain!

Who are the brain police, by the way?

It's happy and sad to see this coming together. When it's all zipped up, I hope you'll come back on with some action shots. Looking awesome!

Those rack units look absolutely beautiful. I don't envy the task of hooking up all the equipment mind you... amazing amount of work involved in a build like this.

Must drop in an see you chaps when I'm up at Pluto again.

Take it easy!

How weird is it that I think I'd have a blast working on all that wiring? And that flooring is gorgeous.

I've been almost a year of GS but I'm excited to see all this progress! good job guys!

We fitted the customer connect panels behind the patch rows.

Then we started connecting our EDAC terminated looms.

Are you sure you wouldn't sustain a bit those blue cables behind the patches ???
It seems that some of them are quite stretched by the multicores weigth, aren't they ?

There is no strain, there is a rail below the rack where the cable comes from. The cables are tied to the rail taking all of the weight.
