He tells me the oak is plained straight and will be cut tomorrow

Then Grahams on with manufacturing the joints and drilling the holes....

It's all looking good fellas for a Saturday fit.....

Some of today's woodshop activity!

The American Oak looks like a scaffolding board to begin with but looks beautiful when planed down!

And it is American Oak, not English Oak, typo from Andy!

We like our Console's English but our wood American!!!

NOONOO

Best bit was when Graham let his Noonoo out to eat up all of the wood shavings!

Hard to believe that you have to start with this massive plank:

In order to end up with this tiny return piece:

More woodworking today! Tongues and grooves are cut, Graham sanded all of the timber down and we set out the Jig for the decorative holes.

Graham uses a spindle moulder to cut the grooves, I asked him if I could have a go and set it up. The lack of a reply spoke volumes!!!

Of course not. The saw is loud so you'd need to YELL on the phone. Jesus, on a forum devoted to the recording and reproduction of amplified music, you wouldn't think I'd have to give a lecture about background noise and dynamic range?

For manual rips like this, I like to leave the guide hand fixed. The board moves, the guide hand doesn't. It takes big time discipline if you are working long days on manual cuts. You don't want to know about accidents I've witnessed in big wood shops. Autofeeds are nice tools to have.

Big thanks to Josh, Louie and new to Team Analogue Baby is a very talented young engineer, Tony Draper.

The man himself, Tony D, sharpens a kebab knife!

Louie is really bending over backwards to help get the room finished!
