Hi
I saw Peasy just before Christmas and although I can't remember exactly what he said he is doing I think it is on the lines of 'touring' with live bands and not studio related.

I went back over the thread - but i couldn't find anything about the recess in the live room, the cavity into the ceiling with the window...It is a window right?

How is that working with isolation etc? If I've got it right...

Yes they are windows allowing natural light into the live room area...

The cavity is fully insulated in exactly the same way the live room Walls are constructed....

It's fully soundproof....... If we would of had our way we would have raised all the existing ceiling to that level, it was just to cost prohibitive and intrusive construction wise to the surrounding areas, the live room was already there from the previous studio build, we have just made a certain section of the ceiling higher to improve the "live" feeling of the room, it's never going to "AIR" we're not that far up our own arse to think that, the room will be an excellent space where we can get 15-20 orchestral players in in small sections, the drums will sound amazing and everything else in there......

We'll prove it when we open, it looks like the money for us will be score mixing and games , I built this new place to record high end music projects but it looks like the film and game boys" will "or should I say "have" booked the time..... Bands will have to wait their turn..... Its a pity but there you have it....

There is an insulated roof with skylights in above the windows that you can see. The windows that you can see are a few feet below the double skin skylights.

The glass was specified by our architect.

The raised section in the live room is of the same construction as the new control room "Lid"

There are no problems with isolation at all. The control room is in a different unit, only the viewing window links them. No sound will leak from the outside world into either room or from one into the other.

The raised area gives us lovely natural light and increases the cubic volume of the room which is very important for ambiant micing.

The raised section will be acoustically treated so not to affect the sound in the room, it will just be extra air above the mics

Does this answer everything?

That they cost 10 billion quid to put up ?????

Or is the way the blocks have been laid one way for the control room and another for the machine room ?

If there a nuclear attack in the UK the control room is where I want to be .....

Presumably the machine room is on the left, and the blocks are laid that way because they don't need to keep out an awful lot of noise, and orientating the blocks the same way as the control room would use more blocks/money.
