Recording studio - albufeira, portugal

Hello all !

This is the latest studio I have designed. I usually do tons of work in acoustics not related to studio design (environmental and industrial acoustics, large rooms etc..)

The idea of the control room is to get a non-dry space with controlled acoustics. The budget and space for this project is VERY limited (weigth is 3m , aroud 10 ft)

- using diffusion to enlarge the sound in the room and stay way from an anechoic sound type room
- use of medium frequencies absorption
- simple construction

I also be posting pictures of the tracking room with variable acoustics when I have photos as well as the control room, this will take some time.

I had understood such diffusion in such a small space was counter-productive so I can't wait to read/see more!

Lenght of the room is around 22 ft (4.5 m) so the distance from rear diffuser to listening position is equal or longer than 10 ft. I don't like to use only absorption in a room.

About the side diffusers they are used to prevent the room to become too dry and are placed after the listening position. This is my preference.

I have been in studios done by other acoustica engineers other than myself who have also used diffusion in first reflection points and the rooms have very good acoustics. The rooms end up sounding larger than they really are and are more approximate from typical listening conditions.

Hi Andre.

What its the main frequency for the QRD diffusor for the side walls?, did you considered the distance between the walls for its design??.

Cool video!

Hello,

Frequency for the back diffuser is around 700 Hz. Side diffusers are half the
depth.

This is already a small room so I chose to use thinner diffusers on the side walls

I will post more pictures soon.

I'm producing an artist from Australia who wants to record near Lisbon, Portugal in end of May - early June on his way back from Europe to Oz. We'd be looking for one or two weeks block booking. We need a live room and mix room. Mainly recording solo artist, guitar, vocals etc, but possibly a few guest musicians, percussionist and so on. Can you tell me pass me the contact for the studio?

Thanks

Simon.

Hi,

This studio was not in Lisbon and was never finished unfortunately.

On studios in Lisbon, some I recommend...
