Thanks! it took over a year to find it!

They are presently at 12', but the 2 that are going to be in the live room (the open ceiling area in the photos) will be raised to about 28' to allow for a ~22-24' ceiling height.

We will have one large live room (~1,800 sq ft), 2 large iso's (~280 sq ft), and a very large (~800 sq ft) control room. It will be a Film and TV music scoring stage, so we are designing a nice sounding room.

96-channel Neve, ProTools, 3 Studers (2-2", 1-1/4 or 1/2" decks), etc...

Roof gone, ready to cut trenches for the 2 grade beams and 4 6'x8'pads before lifting the 2 inner beams.

Partial trench for one of the 2 grade beams. Shoring up beam for widening of the cartage entrance, which means demo'ing a portion of the wall.

Saw-cutting through the wall!

Grade Beams ready to be poured...

Pad Holes, which will be full of rebar, are going to support the pillars which will hold the 2 raised girders.

Overall, things are going well.

Yes! We have a great contractor.

This project is 2 years in the making. Most of the time was spent at Glendale City hall fighting through red tape...

More pics

Ending the week with the interior steelwork nearly done.

This is the West wall's structural steel reinforcement system, which is mirrored on the West Wall. It is shown mounted, but not installed. Holes will be marked, then the steel removed, the holes drilled, the steel replaced, and then they will be bolted. Lots of time and labor here...

(That large, square hole will be bricked up next week. It was a pass-through from a past tenant that used the both this and the neighboring building. Both buildings are separate, with only a 3" gap between me and my two East and West neighbors.)

These are the struts that will have the door to the mic locker/storage in between and under them. To the right, in the middle of the wall, will be the CR glass, which is the North wall of the Live Room.

The Electrical Room Door will be between the strut pillar and the wall. This strut, and another at the other wall, mark the South end of the Live Room. (See last photo)

The Iso Rooms will be to the right of this 3rd strut system; the South end of the Live Room.

The 2 large (280 sq ft.) Iso's, and Control Room (800 sq. ft) will be built under the existing roof.

Next week should see the new steelwork done on the raised roof portion, including flying the old girders up to 25 feet to sit on the new pillars! Can't wait for that.

I'll post more pictures soon. Lots of metalwork going up, and the overall superstructure will be completed by the end of the week, hopefully.

The building is a big rectangle (6,500sq ft), with 3 parts making up the interior, from back to front: Live Room/Iso's, Control Room, and lounge/offices.

Without posting the plans, I can tell you that the live room, which will be under the raised roof, obviously, will be a rectangle, approx. 36x46ft, 20ft high (finished), 2 iso's under the eaves at the back of the building (280sq ft each). The control room will be an 800sq ft rectangle, short side looking out into the live room (17ft wide glass). No soffit monitors. Theatrical surround sound monitors built in (6 JBL 8330 speakers in a true diffuse theatrical array). Lounge, office, and bathrooms in front of building.

Nothing groundbreaking or wierd, just basic, sound design. The live room will indeed be live, with some nice reverb.

You're building this in Glendale? I feel for you. I've had my own interactions with their building department, it's no fun.
What part of town are you in? I'd love to come by & see it in progress.

I live in Adam's Hill, btw.

This may be the largest studio construction thread I've ever seen. I'll be drinking my morning cup of tea following along here.

I'm curious to know what your build-out budget is not including any audio infrastructure....?
