The bad news is that you'll NEVER be done with the build out. The good news is that you'll never be at a loss for something to do...

Hey profool,

Pretty straight forward, "rockwool"or 703 corning in the walls, along with sound board and 5/8ths sheetrock staggard over the seams. All joints and seems are caulked with a silicon (gooy) material and expanding foam.

It's also raised on the floor with auralex "uboats".

we're building this one especially bomb proof as we want to be able to cut vocals while another tracking session goes on in the A room. we'll see how it goes!. It'll be tie lined to the A room as well.

so true, so true.

Next biggie is getting the HVAC dialed in....we've got some noise now, I'm gonna build a "plenum"(sp) in the cavity where the air unit lives.
Fun!

some new pics, new ****

Well, we joined forces with another AE who closed his shop across town. He actually started at our place 8 yrs ago as an assistant and went out on his own for a bit, times being tough, he's trying to diversify and do more live/remote stuff but wants to keep his hand in the studio as well. He'll be booking 25 hours or so a week of his own clients and will be parking his gear in our place in the meantime.
new stuff includes:
trident 65
mtr 90
rosetta 800
trak 2
manley vari mu
1176
avalon 737
isa 110's x 2
Tannoy, ns10, and Dynaudio bm6a's ( we're a little closer to a surround set up now)
and a bunch of other outboard FX, some guitar amps, monitor amps, mics blah blah blah.

It's gonna be a little tight in there, but I think will be a cool thing in the long run.

here's a few updated pics

I like how the studio looks more like a home than a studio.

Think you've got enough vinyl?

hi

Congratulations, my friend. So no sonex and similar foam was used, right?
You make framings on the walls and fill it with OC703, 705 and then you cover it with some gypsium board, right? But do you kind of cover the 703 with fabric as if it were a "pillow"?
I imagine that with time pieces of it shall go thru the air if not poperly "sealed". Sorry If you alçready mentioned all this.

Well-

Sad to report that proxy will be shutting it's doors as a commercial room on October 30th.

I've not been involved for a year and a half now, having taken on stay at home daddy duties, and having been working more out of my home mix room.

Definitely a bummer, a beautiful room and a lot of good music in the short 3 ish years-

The owners are going to keep it rolling, choosing to put together a mobile rig.

Who ever chooses to rent the building is going to have an either very vibey office space, or a nice start on a studio of their own.

It's tough to see it go, but such is the state of affairs here in so. cal.

Oh, the Humanity!

Hi Craig. My condolences, as well. Being new to GS and reading this thread from the start for the first time today, I felt as though I was witnessing the birth of a star. Skipping straight to the present day, it's quite shocking.

It's clear that you really poured your heart into this, and that it was a real community effort that resulted in an amazingly comfortable creative space. It would be a shame to see all of that infrastucture go to waste...hopefully someone else could benefit from your hard work, and keep the music coming!

Still and all, it's the people that matter most, and it's good to hear that everyone's doing alright. Are you going to let your baby grow up to be a recording engineer?

Peace,
Johnny Vince

Thumbs up

[QUOTE=cajonezzz;28755]busy....
cool thing is that we're actually on budget however I think a late Feb opening is pressing it. I think the finish work will be a work in progress. No one has really made a call as to general wall treatment [fabric, paint etc]
The cable order is a bitch 'cause we've yet to settle on satellite outboard racks or what....We're also going to run cable for future surround [ Michael Wagener has been REALLY helpful with info. He sent me his home vid of his studio construction, fun to see it come together time lapse as well as dimmensions that were going to start our surround set up on, Thanks Michael]
Here are a couple shots, excuse the crap all over, it's been a bitch to build as we've had to have all the materials inside the room with us. Very frustrating trying to climb up and over stacks of material. Leaving anything outside is out of the question, as it would either get ripped or bring the Socialist State of Kalifornia zoning dickheads sniffing around. [ Let's just say that if Teddy Pendergrass ever calls we'll have to refer him to another studio, No offense Teddy...]
First shot is the live room....the colum will go away. The "drum room" is to the left ....12x13ish ft (the yamaha c7 is in there under blankets) The voc booth to the right then the main CR. all the HVAC is routed....now how to hide it or dress it up. ceilings next week.....[/QUO

Yoakum Sound Pictures

Thanks for the interest.
The room has been amazing (especially since my 7 year old put the Wii into the room)
I had a flood and had to replace some drywall.
The surround speakers are B&W surrounds. You can see them in the picture on the walls.

Michael, we met years ago at Enterprise when you were doing White Lion and I was doing Malcolm McClaren.
Your work is awesome!

Alan,
How is the acoustic treatment of your room done?

Excuse me for my ignorance, but I don't see the usual adsorption and diffusion panels. Are they hidden in these walls I see?
