Hi snoggin!

Random guy with dumb question here...

Whats the difference between a tracking room and a mixing/control room? Is it a synonym for recording room?

Just curious...Im.new

The control room is the nerve center as it were . It’s where the engineer directs the recording process . Old school it probably has a console with tie lines out into the various rooms to bring in audio from mics and instruments in the live rooms The engineer monitors and adjusts levels from there during tracking which is

Done in the tracking room or live room. I call my big one the main tracking room. And a couple smaller rooms called booth’s Used to isolate amps or instruments or vocalists. When bleed is not desirable

Or for a different sound than the main tracking room

Sometimes there is lots of cross over Many operations where one room is used for both purposes

Couple little details. Window glazing. Laminated glass 5/8”. Then 7/16” 5.5 inch airspace

Perforated panels.
504 holes per panel times 6. Doing two at a time tho

Starting control room ceiling. 4” of knauf rigid insulation is pretty heavy so I had to figure out a beefy invisible attachment system.

Using deck ties and heavy duty GRK screws into my plywood backing

What is your ceiling height? What sort of solutions are being used to deal with what appears to be a relatively low ceiling?

Well the whole studio has a floor to ceiling height of about 8’10” after all the isolation. The control room cloud which covers probably 80% of the room is five inches deep . 4” of knauf rigid 6 lb insulation and a 1” airspace.

I do wish I had more height but it is what it is. Jeff Hedbach designed it so I’m confident I’m making the most of what I have.

It will be light years beyond my current 1 room warehouse space.. But that does have 14 ft ceilings . But I lease that and don’t want to put money into a place I don’t own

But I have other bands rent time from me so it basically pays for itself and I have a huge storage spot for free!

Basically done!!

I haven’t posted in a while but I’ve completed all the acoustic treatment and cabling etc and have been up and running for a few weeks now . Still shaking everything down just doing my own stuff and rehearsing here but it’s awesome ! I’ll have some clients coming in next month and will be working on my own Release as well . Apparently this will be in the next mix magazine thanks Jeff Hedback who designed the spaces and treatment .. how cool is that ??!! Pretty cool.

I’m going to try and attach pics from the photo shoot we did. Friend of jeff’s took the pics

I see in one if your pics that you have something with a handle installed over the exterior window in the live room. It looks like it was used to have a means to seal off that window but still have the option to open it if you wanted to.

Out of curiosity, that did you use there?

Yes I call it a plug . It works great !! It is made of theee layers

3/4” mdf with 5/8” drywall in between It is heavy !!!

So I don’t move it in and out that much . I’d guess 60 lb
But it really works and is almost as good as the wall
It backs into stops with acoustic grade gasketing on it also
But one person can do it Just heavy
