We've launched our YouTube channel and with it we released a small video with some footage of this build. From now on we'll keep doing videos along with the photos!

wow, interesting project!
Keep us updated.

I am currently planning to install sound absortion frames in my studio (amateur).
First I thought of Rockwool, but really do not want those dust- and itchproblems.

It looks like wood fibre is a great alternative.
Can someone plese confirm/ disconfirm that it is when it comes to soundabsortion?

Hi Dennis,

Yeah, for this purpose the wood fibre panels will work just as well as rockwool.

We've started to place some of the insulation and the wood fibre is WAY easier to handle than rockwool (no itching!). Plus, it smells like popcorn

Time for a long due update!

Construction of the acoustic structures for the studios is going well, after a long wait for more materials.

In the meantime things have been progressing steadily in the rest of the complex.

Our in-house apartment for bands, offices and production rooms:

Finally got some color on the front and back walls of the building!

The vinyl library is entering the final stages of construction as well.

The new skylights will make the offices and production rooms much more comfortable:

Now the fun part!

Main corridor of the studio floor:

The live room of Studio A became a temporary storage space:

Unfortunately I'm not allowed to touch the table saw

Framing the control room of Studio A. Miguel is one of my business partners and the head of the studio building department. Here you can see him checking some plans and sporting an UTA shirt, because we all know they make some of the best gear out there.

First, the machine room:

Finishing the floor structure and framing for the vocal booth:

Wood fibre going in:

We should be able to get the pictures flowing at a faster pace. If only the days were longer…

Thanks man! Hopefully you can visit when it's ready.

We should definitely hang out again next time I'm in LV.

They might be on the right track there considering that isn't a table saw!

Looking great, excited to see what the final finish and trim looks like.

The record collection belongs to the City Hall, it has a lot of very old Portuguese folk records that you can’t find anywhere else (among other cool stuff). It’s a great project and we’re thrilled to help them make the records available to the public.

Oops you’re right. I guess the correct term is mitre saw?

New pictures! Not the best looking photos, but...

Framing of Control Room A:

immortalising my beautiful drawing skills behind the control room wall

Our crew has great musical taste. We also like recording gear.

Building the ceilings of Studio D, and machine room/vocal booth in Studio A:

Air ducts, electrical wiring and final layer of acoustic treatment in Studio D:

Old gate going out, new gate going in. Also, the ceiling in the studio's main corridor was painted:

Air ducts and wiring of the machine room and vocal booth in Studio A:

Back wall membrane:

Laying the floors of Studio B, Studio C and the Mastering room:

Framing of Control Room B:

After being delayed for almost a month, we finally got the main admission duct for the studios and production rooms.

Doing the ceiling and lighting in Control Room B (notice the gap between the first layer of the ceiling and the structural slab above)

Riser in Control Room A so the producer can see above the engineer's head into the live room. It is built out of a very dense and heavy layer of materials in order to avoid acoustic interferences in the room.

The credenza with the outboard gear will be placed in front of this.

In order of appearance: walls going up in the mastering room (these fu*kers are heavy!), first framing in Control Room C and ceiling treatment in Control Room A.

I'm always fascinated by differing framing methods around the world. Why not sit the ceiling joists on top of the top wall plates? Thanks

We do it this way just so the drywall/membrane on the outside of the wall frame can rise over the joists, where it then meets the ceiling drywall layers that sit on top of those same joists. That way we have a drywall/membrane layer going all around the walls and ceiling that’s basically continuous, and everything else works on the inside of that.

While it’s not at all traditional it is the most efficient way we know of that allows us to seal the inner shell on the outside while building it from the inside.
